Run and Gun Mounts for H4N? Mics?

Hi there, I was commisioned to do a documentary with the 7D. I have the H4N and the Manfrotto 482LCD hot shoe mount. The H4N is great, but I want to get a shotgun mic (maybe the NTG-2) and mount it on top of the camera and run it to the H4N. But as a one man crew, this seems a little crazy. I'm doing alot of handheld and also have the indifocusRailsProSm which gets pretty damn heavy. The shoots are pretty fast in terms of set ups. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

I'm liking the look of that. Ideally though I want to mount the NTG2 on top, connected to the H4N which is ideally on me or the rig. How do you do it?

I thought you were going to put the mic on the hot shoe on the cam ?

with my system a longer tube can be used at the handle to mount a mic

imagine a very stripped down version of this..

You can mount on the top of the camera hotshoe with a mini ball head absolutely no problem, but my experience is that wherever you put it, it is better to have a shock mount because any vibrations on the shoulder rig frame or from the camera lens will be absorbed and heard by the H4N. I think it is difficult to find a shock mount system for this device unfortunately. I would be curious as to what folks could devise on that level.

hey morgan, is that a 2 person setup? How much was it? Pretty neat looking.

I dont know how run and gun it has to be, but ive had good luck mounting my H4n on a tripod, then the mic on a mic stand, and having it close to the subject. Then camera on either a shoulder rig or tripod where i want it. Worked well for an add i shot.

Not wanting to drift off topic the bit with the small HD goes and mic makes a cage above the little rig - check the URL on the images - making a 'cinema' shoulder mount, the small bit I describe as a RnG mount
