43 rumors says its a 42MP Pana sensor, both excellent video and photo oriented, still March 2019 release. Heres a WILD thought - NHK is going 8k for the japanese summer olympics broadcasts isnt it? This has HDMI output. I meant gh5 6k is already here. No displays now, but great way to improve 4K post and really get BIG market attention and then be ready for 8k. Comment away...

It is no secret that Panasonic has been pushing for 8k for the 2020 Olympics. A 42mp sensor is the way to make that happen. Also provides great stills and perfectly scaled or cropped 4k and 2k video.

If true would be an interesting camera. What would record 8K though ? I expect external for the data rate but what format etc. Look forward to the end of the month and see if the rumors are correct.

H265 much like the 6k mode on the GH5. I think 200mbps would work well but they could potentially go up to 300 or 400 which is still more than suitable for SD cards.

That would be great. My goal as I get older is to shoot a theatre production without manually driving the camera. It works well with GH5 and GH5S UHD going to HD but of course cannot get the real closeups that I use another camera for. An 8K full stage and the GH5 and GH5S closer in right and left would do the whole thing !!!

GH5 "6K" is 4992 x 3774. "How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn't make it a leg." --- Abraham Lincoln

I think you missed the reference point, were talking about the potential 42MP sensor here being 8k cpable

i wonder if they would go for ProResRaw? Blackmagic raw could also be done in this timeframe...

New info at 43 rumors: 1. it is NOT the organic sensor panasonic has been working on (darn it), 2. not multi-aspect

Not a big deal really. FF probably should stay as FF without any weird multi-aspect taking place. As to the organic sensor I’m not all that concerned really since this is a FF sensor. Organic makes more sense for smaller sensors that need all the help they can get. That isn’t to say FF couldn’t also benefit from it but I think we will be fine for a few years yet.

At first I wasn't very interested in the idea of changing systems, but if it is true that the FF camera will use an existing Leica mount, then the idea of buying into a new system is slightly more appealing. At least for stills. I'm really not sold at all on FF for motion work.

So latest rumor is now that panasonic is releasing TWO FF cameras: 1. lower resolution (good low light) intro cam 2. high resolution more expensive (about 50MP) camera AND 3 new SL mount lenses

latest from 43 rumors: Pana camera # 1- 50MP L mount IBIS 4K60p, 150MP shift stills $4k #2- 20MP L mount IBIS 4k60p IBIS

Well its official. Panasonic S series L Mount alliance. Panasonic is releasing a pair of full frame mirrorless cameras: a 47MP S1R and a 24MP S1. Both use the Leica L-mount. 35 mm full frame image sensor, new Venus image processing engine, 4K 60p/50p video recording, IBIS, dual card slot (one QXD, one SD), new AI based Panasonic's Depth-from-Defocus system for autofocus, very hi res evf, sealed, lcd tilt, 3 new pana lenses 50 mm F1.4, 24-105 mm zoom, 70-200 mm telephoto zoom lens, plus 8 leica lenses, plus sigma, march 2019 release.
