Rumor: Sony A7s will have 4K video

well, its getting more and more appealing, i wish thou that it was 10 bit instead of 8, thou the image still looks great, also the motion is kinda weird, very documentary'ish, probably because both videos were shot with higher than 24 fps. I hope there are more early users, that can show more footage soon.

In the Scotland video, you'll find a very impressive shot of a man working indoors with a brightly lit outdoors background... and also a few less-than-impressive sunny shots right before they get on the boat.

Would like to point out that the vimeo version of the Scotland video is streaming at 720p by the way. You can watch the 1080p version on youtube:

When I watched the vimeo vid that was embedded in the article, it was viewing at 1080 in actual size mode.

That camera looks really promising! I like everything about it so far, with the low light performance being on top of my list! One thing makes me wonder though...in the cherry blossom video there are a few shots with ISO 12800 that look to me a lot cleaner in the shadows than the low light shots of Scotland video with ISO 1600! Anyone can explain that?
By the way...for any low light freak like me:) ...check out that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td_YyG00cOI
I trust that guy and I like his tests...he seems really impressed by what he sees...

* the Scotland video was shot in slog2, the cherry blossom video was shot in standard gamma; so, when you see shadows in the Scotland video, they are really coming from the bottom of the barrel: that's why they are not so clean (for example: the blue boat in the aerials shows some very nasty noise, my guess is that they underexposed to protect highlights in case the sun came out, and then had to push it up in post)

* at ISO 3200 and f/1.4, my camera sees stuff that my eyes can't see; I can get the usefulness of ISO 12K or 25K, to make that aperture a more manageable f/2.8 or f/4, but really, this is no longer low-light, this is no-light!!

So i guess neither CD 7Q, nor Shogun includes a 4K 8-bit 4:2:2 codec? About time dnxhd gets a 4k update.

Thanks for the reply, you re the camera guru:)...so I bet you re right!
Shooting wedding parties on the beach under the ''light'' of the moon and a few candles is a difficult task even for a 6D...well that A7s will be a blessing!

(mmm... thanks but I'm definitely not a guru; just technically minded, and still trying to grasp the artistic side)

unless theat webcam is global shutter, this tells us nothing
I'd be tempted to think that they were there and they say RS looks good, just as Den Lennie did, but it's really difficult to judge RS on a tiny screen
I take it as a slight positive sign

(edit: you'll notice I keep checking this thread every half an hour or so; I wonder why...) (WHAT'S THE PRICE, SONY???)

Not really. Because the camera moving there is the a7s.

If you shot it with my NEX-5N (horrible RS) and the camera in front was an F55 (global shutter), you'd see skew in the LCD screen of the F55.
My NEX reads the bottom of the sensor nearly 30ms after it has read the top. Even at 24p, the most likely result is that the top would belong to one frame, the bottom to the next one.
You're basically adding the integration time of the two sensors (if the LCD fills the whole screen of the rear camera; if not, you're adding the full integration time of the front camera plus a proportional part of the integration time of the rear camera).

In any case, this always skews the results in the direction of "RS is horrible", so if you are able to draw any conclusions from this awkward test, it a worst-case conclusion.

You could not get skew by filming another monitor, you would get a broken and flickering image in the LCD but not skewed footage.
