Not wanting to fan the flames of this rumor but I can't find a link to the GH1 on Amazon. The nowinstock link still sends you to an Amazon page with the GH1, but if I search all departments in Amazon I get no GH1 page. In the past there was always a cam available with a serious up in price of $2499. The cams been out for months now and theres nothing on amazon US.
Very unlikely due to the GH1 release date, they'd be cutting their own GH1 sales down. Makes little to no sense. What would make more sense, but I doubt it, is a GFH1, with full-HD. Also, all of these specs are quite obvious, as these are 'standard' upgrades to any camera. Added with the 1080 /60p makes it obviously fabricated.
i've been thinking panasonic should release something like that photoshop image.
i mean just looking at all the available brands of dof adapters, the enormous prices on them and all the cheap diy tutorials for making your own... it's a massive market force.
cramming cannibalised video features into a still camera is probably a way to test that market, but they should be bolder than that. the reason i joined this forum (and from its name i'm guessing its also the reason it was established in the first place) is because panasonic created, in the dvx100, the camera we all wanted. why not do that again?
i guess they don't want to make options like the GH1 too good, or else that will make their professional offerings seem irrelevant. if that's the case, i think they should stop dreaming! digital cameras are getting cheaper and cheaper, as well as better and smaller too. there's very little reason why they should cost up to and over 50k. or at least in the years to come.
It's like how sony lost their massive market share on portable audio players because sony records wouldn't let them be called mp3 players because they were trying to fight mp3 refusing to change with the evolving technologies and the emerging culture surrounding them. as a result, the apple ipod is this generations' sony walkman.
anyway, ramble ramble ramble.... sorry bout that.
they should take the GH1:
- remove the focal plane shutter
- swap the sensor for one or three 4/3 16:9 shaped native 1080 sensor/s (resovling the pixel shift complaints about the hvx etc)
- change the recording medium to p2 and the codec to dvcproHD with all its different formats
- shove it in an video style enclosure with xlr etc
I'm assuming the reason why canon hasn't updated their video line in so long is because they've been working on a worthy competitor for such a camera, after testing the waters with the 5dm2 and now the 7d
it's pretty obvious really, i mean.... as cool as dof adapters might be, as good as the results can get.... it's a pretty stupid looking and archaic procedure. Don't get me wrong, i think it's an ingenius and highly creative practice which evolved from some awesome experimentation. but it should be counter productive by now surely.
can't we move onto the next chapter of this endless film like digital video quest? which i assume (after getting 24p and narrow dof out of the way) will be something to do with gamma.
