Rumor: firmware update

Well this is the second time the rumored 'd90 firmware update' didn't happen. Can we all just agree that when Nikon rumor posts those lies we don't post it here? It really is pointless when they receive an email from "anonymous."
 
i cant believe with the revolutions dslr's are making or approaching to make, there's not a single hacker to take care of things to the extent they can be taken care of in these cameras.
it seems expecting it from Nikon (at least as D90 improvements) is a waste of time.

at the level of image quality we're talking, "the fix" removes nearly all evidence of row skipping. Pretty remarkable. And you be hard pressed to see a difference if the camera were not skipping rows given the other flaws-- over compressed, etc.

Variable bitrate is actually less "variable" than constant. If you compress each frame the same way they all get a different size. It depends om the complexity of the image, the amount of detail if you will. So that's why. Constant bitrate needs an adaptive algorithm that varies the compression. /matt
 
As for the stairstepping they obviously did that for a reason, it's not necessarily something that can be "fixed". I think people in general have unrealistic expectations of what the firmware does, while at the same time underestimating the possibilities. I've reprogrammed my ethernet hard drive to a full fledged linux box with web, ftp and printer server, even a torrent downloader, but there's nothing i can do about its max write speed. See what i'm saying? /matt

I got it $122 not cheap but it appears to be mint and I need it asap. I'm looking for some other nikon primes too.

na an ai, the prices have gone through the roof over the last month thanks to the D90. $120 is about the going rate right now. Some clown even paid $150 for one. I already scored a 50mm 1.4. I really wanted a 1.2 but I would of had to pimp out my kids to pay for it. I need an 85 or a 105 they're not cheap.

I just ordered my cavision rig and a mamiya bellows. I'll put up some pics in a couple of weeks when I put it all together. It's gonna be sexy.
 
Well ****, I'm just gonna have to ebay my lens then. I have a 100mm 2.8 that I'm keeping, and have 2 28mm's 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8 that I've gotta sell cause I don't need them. Hopefully I can sell em for what you bought them for.
