Rumor: firmware update

this one has more specifics so it seems more probable, the other one had a price that didn't make sence and the specs weren't as clear

eh those things can all be fixed in post-prod with color correction and mattsand's 'd90 rescaler.' but a firmware update is always welcome : )

"It seems that the compression on the blue channel is too high, thus causing the stair-stepping"

This has to be a fake. Or... the guy who reported it missunderstood something...

Seems a bit incredulous to me but let's hope.

Also, uh, I'd much prefer NOT having to go through the stair stepping removal process in post so let's hope this is eliminated.

the stair stepping is a whole separate issue from compression, and if there was a way to fix it in software i'm sure they would have already. if this is legit he's talking about the blockiness, which is indeed caused by the blue channel to a large extent. fixed rate jpeg would be nice for sure, but 50hz shutter speeds for pal users is the only thing that neeeeds to get fixed soon, and it would be an easy fix too.

When i shoot footage in black and white, after aplying lee's method, i got some weird horizontal lines on the final footage.

is there a new more complex method to remove the stair-stepping? what you mean with mattsand re-scaler? is it the same method as the lee's one?

im using PC

thanks

how does firmware work? You have to send our camera back or do you upload some software to your camera via the card?

If there was a FIXED bitrate option that would be insane!!

basically ANY change to the bitrate issue will be an enormous IMPROVEMENT, 'cause the way it is now its a worst case scenario, with the current Variable bitrate...

My god this will be amazing...

The stair-step issue is already fixed via After Effects so I could care less about that..

Would it be possible for them to UP the recording time to let's say 10-15 or even 30 minutes? I haven't had a problem with the over-heating, I think I'm gonna try a stress test right about now and report back..

The D90 has no use for live events when only shooting in 5 minute portions.

Just did a stress test-Was able to shoot about 50 minutes of footage before LCD began to overheat. After that, I was only able to do 30 second shots at a time. File sizes varied from 419 megabytes all the way to 626, I hate that various bitrate. I think I was able to push to 700 megs for a 5 minute clip.
