Rumor: Fast Panasonic Zooms coming in 2012

If that is true, let's hope that it doesn't suffer from the same zooming problems the 14-140 does.

Changed the thread title to reflect that this is a rumor, not an official product announcement.

With that said, these would be very interesting if true. If they offer the speed of the Olympus, but with the "HD" logo on them for optimized silent fast autofocus, and presumably much less size than the Olympus, they could become "the" default lenses for the AF100. But, no mention of speed yet, and nothing in that picture says or implies that they are "fast".

Barry,

Thought the roadmap was announced, & didn't realize the lenses were a rumor. Would never have posted the information if I had.

Thanks for the clarification!

Best,
Bern

How did it come from Panasonic themselves? Where's the announcement? Where does it say that they're "fast" or "bright" on that picture? What I'm saying is, someone's reading things into it and offering opinions instead of facts.

The picture looks like someone attended a briefing and snapped a photo and leaked it, so it does look like it's more likely true than not that they plan on introducing some new lenses of that focal length. But until it's an actual announcement by the company, it's a rumor, isn't it?

If it came from Panasonic themselves, I would expect a press release, or at the very least Jan chiming in here by now. But "an employee of Panasonic", or "a source at Panasonic", isn't isn't the same as "Panasonic", as one must presume that such a leak wasn't done with permission and thus not done on behalf of the company.

Short of Jan or a press release/official announcement, it's just a rumor. Judging from the pictures, a more likely than not correct rumor as far as focal length (I see nothing about f/stop, or servo zoom, or anything else). But things are subject to change since it still a rumor.

Jan wouldn't likely be involved, since the Lumix line is produced by the consumer company and not the pro broadcast company.

I'd love if this were true and accurate. It seems very likely that the picture is accurate and that there will be Lumix X lenses with those focal lengths. But there's no official announcement, no press release, and no mention of what the f-stop will be.

I'm guessing 2.5 or 2.8 for both. I think they could bring them in at around $1000.00 each at that speed and with build quality similar to the 14-140.

If there is any basis in fact for that tantalizing photo at 43rumors, it is sort of interesting that the two lenses shown are the identical focal length range as the existing Olympus 4/3 zooms. It would not be a bad thing if Panasonic re-housed the Olympus glass.

Not all that likely though, because the Olympus lenses are HUGE (comparatively) and Panasonic's been orienting themselves more towards tiny lenses (3-D, 20mm pancake, 14mm pancake, 14-42 pancake zoom). They've been making tiny cameras, I'd be very surprised if they rehoused the massive Olympus 35-100 and offered that...

Agree with Barry. Even though it would be nice to rework those lenses with better iris control. I'm guessing the Af100 market is tiny in comparison to the m4/3 camera market and big lenses seem to be a big NO NO in that market which is Sony's achilles heel right now.
