Rumor: Canon 4k super35 camera

Just landed in San Antonio and now checking the thread. My faith in canon is pretty much fully justified. Nice looking rig though. I said not before 2012 so I think I win. I said def no af100/fs100 competitor so I win on that. But they really did surprise me by going after the f3. This is over twice as expensive as their prior top end. Didn't really expect them to do that.

You did? What part? I'm on the Northeast Side. Would love to meet up. I'll try a PM.

RED makes professional cameras.

DSMC means digital stills and motion camera. Stills need to be higher resolution than 3K. *So does motion. *

What seemed like a good idea 3 years ago is not a good idea now nor will it be a good idea going forward.

Additionally, a 2/3" sensor is not big enough.

The world has moved past small sensors and low resolution.

D*&& YOU Server capacity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAaaaaaaaaAAARRRRRrrrrrrrghghghghgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite the price, after seeing Vincent's short--even in it's compressed state--that image is 20K price.

I was kinda miffed at first, when they announced it. Then I watched his short and took my foot out of my mouth to come back here and post.

I haven't seen anything from the F3 that made my eyes pop like that, ANYTHING. The skin, the DR, and the overall fidelity of the C300 footage from Vincent's short is tops. It's resolving the holy heck out of detail.

So yeah, it's priced pretty high and I still think the specs are underwhelming (No Dual Link SDI????) but I think once that image quality starts circulating it's gonna take off.

Thanks Kholi! Your opinion means a lot to me. Good to know that there is something to look for there.....Scarlet's got a bigger sensor though.....ooooooo......

Agreed, Kholi,

The imagery is just stunning. Incredibly sharp. Impeccable color rendition and awesome dynamic range on Vincen'ts short. I 've only watched 1/2 of it so far. (Trying to hit reduser.net). Argh!

Fingers crossed the C DSLR will come in at under $4000 and have the same sensor. I'm glad Canon are going with mjpeg. The mjpeg at 75Mbit/s out of the Pentax K7 looks really nice. I'll be happy to see the end of long gop.

The Canon C prototype DSLR looks oh-so-tasty for my needs. The C300 ... while outside my price range looks to be an amazing camera! Well Done Canon!!

So the Scarlet is coming in at under $10K.

Need to wait for the dust to settle but Canon could have made a mistake here. Although, it's what comes out of the camera that's important. Not always the specs.

We need another 'great camera shootout' pronto :D
