Rumor: Canon 4k super35 camera

Wow, I almost fell out of my chair. The disconnection between Canon and their audience of users....I am truly surprised. Dear Sony and Panasonic, while you didn't make the perfect product for *me* at least you made a product that made sense. Please feel free to send Canon a box of chocolates for helping your sales.

Rick, I end up always agreeing with you, and this time is no different. Stunningly bad foresight on their part. They'll sell some to rental houses, and people with a lot of Canon glass, but why in the world would anyone pay $20 or 15K for this camera? Even TV shows want to save money. And the big budget shows like CSI or MENTALIST will certainly continue using their higher end cams. J

Just a very bizarre - and mojo killing - decision on Canon's part. After all, they stood to make far more money on lenses sales for a $5 K or less camera then they will on what can only be described as a very small number of potential buyers. Perhaps they're counting on the Mark III to pick up that slack.

For those asking about the other camera in the image, it has a red C on it just like the C300. My guess is it was the 1DX because it was too high to be a new 5D or something. It's likely to be new branding going on the DSLR's from now on that have video features. The EOS Cinema trademark.

We already have pictures of the 1DX, and it does NOT have that red "C" on it. That's why I'm anxious to find out more info on it (the one in pictured in the presentation, that is)

april fools!

you got us all canon, good one!

okay seriously, what is the real price? :undecided

I'm not sure I understand the major gripes here.

From the looks of it up until this point, Canon was somewhat revealing that the new camera was NOT going to be a DSLR, therefore not going to be priced in the same realm. They also showed that they're pushing toward the "Digital Cinema" realm, which pushes it above the FS100 and AF100 and more toward the F3 and Red areas. Essentially, studio filmmaking or higher budget indie filmmaking.

What I DON'T understand is all the griping about this new camera not being in the DSLR realm when Canon has clearly shown that this announcement and product wouldn't be geared toward that particular price bracket in the first place.

So, I don't understand the complaining. It's not supposed to be a lower end priced camera and even more so, all of its features haven't even been revealed as of yet. Only the meat and potatoes of it.

It's not a rebranded DSLR...it's a totally new one:

HOLLYWOOD, California, November 3, 2011/TOKYO, November 4, 2011 – Canon Inc. today announced that the company is developing a new-concept EOS-series digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. Incorporating an enhanced version of the video-capture capability offered in the current EOS-series lineup, the new camera will be ideally suited for cinematographic and other digital high-resolution production applications. The model will be equipped with a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor and, enabling the recording of 4K video (at a frame rate of 24P, with Motion-JPEG compression), will make possible the type of exceptional image quality and sublime imaging expression to be expected from the next generation of “EOS Movies.”
The announcement coincides with the launch of the Cinema EOS System, marking Canon’s full-fledged entry into the digital high-resolution production industry. The new professional digital cinematography system spans the lens, digital cinema camera and digital SLR camera product categories.
Further details regarding the new EOS digital SLR camera currently under development, including the product name, specifications and scheduled launch date, have yet to be decided.

I don't know why people are saying this 300C or C300 or whatever is over priced? Did you see that Blade Runner looking video they put out? Looked damn good to me.
