Rumor: Apple to sell Final Cut Studio Suite to purchase Adobe Suite?

I'd almost be willing to bet apple won't sell of its Pro Apps. Not sure why, but thats my overall feeling. Why would they have just released Final Cut Server if they are just going to sell it off?

Though they have only sold 1,000,000 units of FINAL CUT STUDIO, that does not account for the other pro apps, which are suppose to do well.

Think that the average machine that is being purchased to run FCS is $6000 (23", Mac Pro) + $1200 for Final Cut, assuming Apple has 10% profit margins would mean that Apple has made $720,000,000 of these setups ($6000 + $1200 x 1,000,000 x 0.1). Thats not including the other pro app workstations that exist.

I wouldn't count on Apple selling off the pro apps anytime soon.

Best phone I've ever had. I dropped mines in the Toilet, had to get a different phone and realized just how good the iPhone was. I'll be shelling out another 400 - 500 to get one again.

Everyone can complain all they want about Apple Hardware and Devices... the bottom line is that they're generally worth every dollar and rock harder than their counterparts. Add to that the resale value of hardware and devices: you can sell your year old Macbook Pro for just a few pennies less than you bought it for to upgrade to the newest Macbook Pro. I'd love to see you try that with any other brand.

Not saying this to YOU DXmetal, just in general. I'm no Apple "Fanboy" but I'd like to think I can recognize a good product or brand when I see it/use it.
 
I only like iTunes and teh iPod/iPhone. I may go mac next year depending on where REDCODE technology goes, but that will be a sad day.

What's sad about picking the best tool for the job? No tool, and for us all these computers, programs, and cameras are just tools, is right for every job. Everyone has personal preferences, but personal preference shouldn't trump picking the best tool. I prefer FCP on a Mac, but if the best tool for the job is Avid on a PC then I'll use Avid on a PC. If I'm on a project that requires a lot of AE work maybe CS3 would be the best tool for the job. Be pragmatic, not partisan. :beer:

I agree Kholi. This is kind of what I was saying about Logic 8 too. A few people may have some problems, and some of them may be professionals, but by and large it's another great product from Apple that just works a little better than what else is out there and is worth every penny.

Because I'm in love (with good cause, mind you) with Avid+PC.

And if you're using P2, I assume you're working in Edius or Premiere Pro CS3, right? :D
 
Just heard from a very credible source (an Apple FCP engineer) that although Apple has been pulling resources from the Pro Apps division for a while there's no possibility of a sale. It's mainly internal adjustments.
Actually she's expecting some big announcement before the end of this year.
Apple/Mac have more than 65% of all professional NLE market worldwide!
And it's growing.

It was just a comment on saying he'll use the best tool for the job no matter what it is -- Edius and CS3 are obviously that for P2.

I've read a bit about the MXFImporter.component workaround; how well would you actually say it works? What about meta data, etc.? I ask from genuine curiosity; from what I've read, there's some awkwardness like having to import video and audio separately, etc., which is obviously less than ideal. You may do it, but would you recommend it?
 
no, i wouldn't recommend it above NLEs with true native support. i mean, i usually have to sync double system to picture on my shoots anyway so the audio is not an issue, but if metadata is key to your workflow... its not there. metawho?
