rubberband can turn your crappy tripod into a usable one?

I stumbled upon this on youtube

It's like an infomercial... for a rubberband :)

pretty interesting anyways... so simple....

I have Professional Grade TV approved rubber bands for sale if anyone is interested.
$19.95 gets you 5. That's less than $4 per "device".

thats nothing new; my professor taught us the same thing 3 years ago. it does work pretty good however. some steadycam systems use shock systems with weights, thats the same principle. no offense meant but it is nothing new.

i use foam rubber in between cam mounts to cushion hard jarring for in-car capture, and latex rubber hose pieces to keep cameras from yawing or jarring vertical/horizontal with car motion to buffer the video, looped around the cars' roll cage and the cams lens barrel secured with hockey tape.

if you have a larger cam and a fluid head tripod, say 15lbs weight on a 501HDV or equivalent head, its better to use a lates 1/4 dia hollow tube/hose than a simple rubber band; stuff is maybe $1.25 a foot at lowes/home depot in USA maybe 1 euro in the EU. i prefer using it over pulling via tripod 'sticks' and like the rubber band with the tiny handycam shown does work pretty well, better than an inexperienced operator, or someone zonked out on sugar and caffeine as i usually am.

i actually bring a 3 ft segment with me to shoots just in case, but my rig is 20+ lbs and fluid head i adjust the resistance and pull at a 45 degree angle so it is very smooth, for vertical or horizontal, or v+h pan pulls.

years ago i thought i invented the steadicam with a pair of torsion/tension/shock rods (whatever they are called) out of the hatch area of my project RX-7 (had bought it when i was 14 to work on) and a bit of welding and rubber hosing...

Good for some things, I suppose, but try following sports action with that technique and see how it works for ya. :)

Just sent my money. But why is your address in Nigeria?

One advantage to having long hair. I've used this for years... always have a couple of spare hair bands, and they come in handy on shoots.

That was really funny! (probably good info) but yes, like an info-mercial for rubber bands! He should do a follow up series showing how great that is for getting step-up rings off! (also perfect for that)... not to mention opening pickle jars.

I did find one flaw in the video though... he said all you need is a rubber band to get a perfect pan... but everybody knows the perfect pan has bacon in it.

I've wanted to attempt this but have held back from purchasing a rubber band due to the rather daunting array of colors and some of the conflicts between manufacturers regarding what they consider to be standard sizes.

For example, one distributor has a size 117 being 1/16 inch wide and a size 127 being 1/8 inch wide. However, an OfficeMax size 117 is 1/8 inch wide. A manufacturer has a size 117A (1/16 inch wide) and a 117B (1/8 inch wide). Another distributor calls them 7AA (1/16 inch wide) and 7A (1/8 inch wide) but labels them as specialty bands (!).

I'm holding out for the Apple iBand.... it's sure to be way better then an ordinary rubber band and will include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities!
Truely magicial.

Don't over-think it. Find the fattest one you can get that will stand up to a lot of stretching and abuse.

Let it go buddy... it's not worth it. It's just cheese in a trap... nothing more... just turn around and walk away...

Yeah, but it's going to be at least $100, PLUS $30 a month through AT&T.
