ROXOR-Filmpower integration 3-axis Stabilization VS DJI Osmo

The issues I see are:
Auto exposure and auto white balance is obvious and seems to step rather than ramp. No mention if that can be disabled.
Given today's markets most people own smart phones with comparable cameras. Some with full 30fps 4K. In addition some own GoPros. Many of these are just consumers using for fun so even the non professional market has options. With smartphone, they have 4" or larger screens. For those they can buy a gimbal for less money than the ROXOR. With apps like FilmicPro they have very nice manual control over exposure and focus. And FilmicPro has announced for Android (was just iOS) so they're expanding their market.

This is what ROXOR has to compete against. It has to be a choice even for those who have smartphones in order to sell. The only way I can see that is if it has a lower price. If it matches the price of those less expensive gimbal only prices, people might buy it instead so they can use their smartphones for other things. But obviously your costs are greater. Also consider for a few hundred dollars more, one can get a DJI Osmo which has better 4K. it does require the smartphone for control but the problem you face, is that people mostly own those so that's not a problem for them.

My suggestion would be a firmware update to allow use to disable auto iris and auto white balance and then drop the price by another $100. But if people can buy a ROXOR for $299 or another gimbal at same price and use their smartphone with 4" - 5" screen and 4K camera you still need to give them a reason to buy the ROXOR instead.

Hope you can find the same price of an integration 3-axis stabilization and built-in LCD screen. Do a detailed comparison, including price, quality, stability, and so on.

Here's a camera with the same specs as the Roxor and also has and LCD for $65:

And here's the Feiyu 3-axis gimbal for $215:

So, for $280, you can get what the Roxor offers with the luxury of changing cameras whenever you want. So, why would I buy the Roxor?

Lanparte, Ikan and others make 3 axis gimbals for under $300. They have the advantage that you can upgrade your action camera or use smartphone.
If one is going to have a gimbal with a camera that can be upgraded, the price has to be lower than $399.
$199 beats the competition. $299 one might consider it over a more expensive alternative for simple ease of use. $399 there's lots of closely priced products all with the ability to add a better camera in the future even for a low budget beginner.

Maybe some people see OSMO or Feyiu and GoPro and/or smartphone as much more expensive if you have to buy it all and might consider the ROXOR but those price hunting know about the options Morox mentions. Otherwise people who already have smartphone and/or GoPro or other Action Cam all have less expensive alternatives with a gimbal only purchase. That what ROXOR must compete against.

BTW here's another camera with similar specs for $95.

So it's very easy to match ROXOR with a Gimbal and Camera for a similar price but with the advantage of being able to buy a new better camera.

The OSMO is more expensive, yes... but it's an actual finished product. The smartphone integration means it can be used as a remote-controlled action camera in addition to traditional "gimbal" walk-and-film kind of usage.

I was playing with my OSMO attached to my friend's mountain bike while he rode some trails. I could pan/tilt the OSMO from my iPhone while he rode. Made for some really interesting stuff. I can imagine it'll also be really handy suctioned to the outside of a car while you steer the camera from the smartphone inside.

In addition, the OSMO has much much much better video quality and actually has usable 4K.

And for all their failings, DJI generally does a pretty good job of delivering a product that's at least CLOSE to their hyping. FilmPower seems to have really dropped the ball on that part of things. The initial hype around the ROXOR made it sound like it would shoot 4K and be a legitimate competitor to the OSMO... but 10fps is just pitiful for 4K and the video quality even in 1080P is pretty underwhelming... even for a $200 camera.

That's the thing to consider here. Might be the 100th time I've said this, "buy cheap, buy twice". The Osmo is a complete finished product and the Roxor is questionable. So you can spend $199 (actually $299 without preorder) and get a device that looks like it's not living up to it's marketed hype, or spend a bit more and get a device that lives up to its promise. Also, the Osmo has more to offer being that DJI is using a modular path in their products. Osmo handle with X3, X5, X5r and in which all cameras work with the Inspire 1. Leading one to think that the money you spend on any of them would be a better investment knowing that DJI is committed to the product and future advancement in the lineup.

Plus, the X3 and X5 cameras shoot 30fps 4k. They all work well with the DJI app. The X3 camera has a filter thread. Manual exposure and a LOG profile. Community support (DJI Website) and in most cases, tech support. Roxor? Not so much.

My advice? Coming from a person that has the X3 and X5 for the Inspire 1 (waiting on the handle kit). Pay a little more for a camera solution that should take you past a year of use if not longer with the DJI products. Or, save some money and buy a product that falls short of it's initial marketing promise and will end up in a shoe box in a few months while you are looking for funds to buy the Osmo or other "comparable" product. Meaning, "you bought cheap, and you bought twice". It's your call....

Well, seeing as this post was originally titled "...VS DJI Osmo", I'll chime in and say that I also have an Osmo. It's a nice piece of kit that has much better image quality and stabilization than the footage in the comparison video posted.

For you, the two machine together can achieve this function, but for manufacturer, not the combination of the two machines, but need more complex design.

well, a time must come to stop giving rope. its been nearly a month since they told me my unit would ship. i gave them till then end of the week to get it out or refund.

was still looking forward to testing the roxor, but enough is certainly enough.
