ROXOR-Filmpower integration 3-axis Stabilization VS DJI Osmo

Darren, the cinematography is stellar. Getting that vintage moiré pattern on the buildings in the background is great. Having the protagonist take that first bite and then choke on it. Brilliant! The apple represents the world. The protagonist, exiting his shell, takes his first bite of the world and chokes on it. Meanwhile, behind him the images are faulty. Society is fractured. The snow, representing the cold world surrounding him.

And then it is all done in one take. Wow. Sundance here you come.

sundance? pshhh. it's got academy consideration

I appreciate the aesthetic choice of the flickering exposure level. Almost as if the video was being recorded off the projection of a vintage film camera. I sometimes add a digital filter in post for that effect, but you actually managed to capture it in camera. Very meta.

Darren, you summed up my experience almost word for word (my battery fit seems ok though). Really... SD card that you need to use a paper clip to eject?

I'm impressed with the thumb control and overall stability of the unit for the price, but the picture quality (at least on mine) is terrible. I thought it would have been as good as a mid-level older smart phone, but no. Also, zero chance of using it indoors. I think you could cut to it for a few seconds as b-roll on outside scenes.

Has anyone tried returning yet? I'll dig up my confirmation email to see how to go about it. I had low expectations and wanted to like this device, but it stinks. I figured it would be the gimbal that would be iffy...but it's the image.

As soon as I learned this could not shoot usable 4k due to frame rate I knew it was going back. I never opened it and asked for an RMA and asked for them to cover return shipping. They said I could return it but refused to pay return shipping and gave the SF address...and unbelievably spelled the name of their own company wrong in the email sig line. I sent it back. After it was delivered based on tracking I asked them for the paypal refund. They said they would give it when I gave them them tracking number. I gave them the tracking number again and "Yolanda" said a credit will be issued shortly. A few days later I inquired again and was told AGAIN that they will credit when they receive the item!@!!!!...then I gave them the tracking number again. No response for a few more days then i contacted paypal and filed a claim and provided the tracking number and nonsensical email thread. It took a week but I was refunded $229 in full and only lost the shipping to SF. Stay away from this company...far far away...they are very confused.

Despite the title of this thread, I still haven't seen it compared to the DJI Osmo. I really do like my Osmo though. Might get work to buy the X5 or X5R whenever they come out.

Probably because there's no comparison. Osmo actually records 4k at standard video frame rates and doesn't have an always on autoexposure.

This has to be one of funnier reviews. Roxor vs Osmo but only "discusses" Roxor.

Of course any manufacturer can have QC issues which allow some dysfunctional units get through.

We are on holidays a few days ago, so some things may be delayed. Our staff need to deal with a lot of things everyday, there may be omissions or insufficient place, also please understand. We will try to solve the problem of each customer, also thank you for your support to us.

iriszhang,

i have emailed your team several times, and posted on your facebook page about issues/return of a Roxor, no one has responded to these inquiries. It's going on several weeks since i first brought the issues to filmpower's attention. At this point your company's policy looks to clearly be to ignore customers with issues. It seems that filmpower doesn't realize or does not care that customers share their experiences, and possibly more detrimental to you: file cases with our credit card companies.

Sorry, may reply information too much, and my workmate did not find your message. could you send mail again? We will help you to solve the problem as soon as possible.

@iriszhang,
@hantanbl
Please advise on procedure to open the Roxor front cover, see post #204. Actually the purpose is to adjust the threaded lens unit being currently out of focus. Hopefully it will be possible to fix the problem following instructions for similar cameras available in the Internet. Thank you for helping.

rdb_kz, I'd recommend not fussing with it and request a return if your unit is defective as was mine. It took a little (well, a lot) of effort but I eventually got my credit card company to refund me. I sent my unit back last week and waiting for a refund on my return shipping credit ($20). If you open it, you'll void the warranty, which likely doesn't mean much since the customer service is non existent.

Good Luck!

Looks like Filmpower is trying to make up for what I can only presume is very lackluster sales by advertising on Indiegogo:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-first-integrated-gimbal-4k-camera#/

Oh boy... nothing like abusing crowd-funding platforms.

A few of their levels of backing include what I'd imagine is a TOS-breaking "lottery" too... Like the $1 level: "one in 399 backers will get a free Roxor".

Not to mention they're acting like it's in-development when it's really a finished product that just isn't very good.
