Rough cost estimate

at the time of my purchase (2 years ago), there was no way around the 45k entry fee they advertised as 25k. The bastardized "Media Composer" software versions were not available. People coming from the meridian line were forced to embrace the debt of DS, downgrade to adrenaline or move on to FCP.
most of us are still in the move on to FCP process.

I may be running a 'bastardized' Media Composer for my own system but that doesn't preclude me from Avid history. I've mentioned elsewhere that one client's ABVB Composer is more stable than any Final Cut box I've ever seen. Chalk your purchase up to bad timing.

I'd be curious to learn more of this mythical 'most of us'. Guess I missed the secret handshake at that meeting.

As for the move to 'FCP process'. Yeah - I did that too. Long before you got reamed on your Avid. It ain't all that.

yes, it was but timing is not getting better for Avid, thats my point. They keep stepping backwards as everyone else creeps forward.
If you have not seen the change from avid to FCP, surf any post production job site. You'll see 3 FCP gigs to every avid gig because there are far more FCP suite being built today than Avid suites. Today's avid suite is a kid with xpress in a basement while todays FCP suite more and more.... are becomeing sweet suites.

I know it aint all that yet. Based on progress and lack of, it's just better priomed to be than any avid product.

again... anyone want a used adrenaline suite for 20k??

Apparently you read about as well as you type. I've cut in nice FCP suites. I also own one. I also own and operate as you call it a 'bastardized' Media Composer set-up. Go Final Cut. I could really care less.

It's true - there are a ton of FCP gigs out there. In this market, the vast majority of them are still fly-by-night wannabe production companies offering lower pay. There aren't any 'kids in the basement' at the higher end Avid facilities out here. Seriously - go Final Cut. You'll find a great niche market salvaging the remnants of shows cut by people calling themselves 'editors' after dropping some cash at an Apple store.

That's cool though - more work for the rest of us. I do prefer Avid but I still wouldn't have bought an Adrenaline. Much like I wouldn't buy a Mercedes built in Alabama. Good luck with that one - don't seem to be many takers.

I couldn't agree with you more.
