rough car mount tests

Re: rough car mount tests

This thread has all the earmarkings of a Matt McDermiit type thread. Mad amounts of posts, bandwidth limit exceeded sites, top notch video skillz... ;)

As a fellow Jeep owner, I'd like to commend you on a job well done. Amazing work. But what was with leaving the soft top on? :P

I agree with John that a shot from above would look great. Possibly mounted on the sound bar?

One question, how did you pan the camera up / down when the Jeep was in motion?

Please post more footage. :D

Re: rough car mount tests

Thanks Contact Therapy. Definitly will get some shots from the soundbar. there is also some great shots looking back from inside. hehe, i know pretty lame about the top! but when i do it for real it will be down for sure.

i shot in full frame mode, no squeeze or anamorphic, and just animated the position behind the 1:85 bars. thats one thing i love about shooting full frame, is u can tweek the composition, or animate it.

who is Matt McDermiit?

Re: rough car mount tests

You must have been at least a little nervous with that camera hanging out there. Not sure I'd have the guts.

Re: rough car mount tests

Rich can you post a close up of the bar mount as I want to see if i can DIY one for a car shoot as well.

Great looking footage BTW ;D

Hey Dan_Lahav,

Great website! Keep those awesome camera rig ideas coming. ::)

What rig would be best for chasing tornadoes? ;)

Re: rough car mount tests

That is fine video. I sent the link to a Jeep enthusiast friend who will certainly up your download numbers.

That is not a DVX100 in the picture. What is it, and obviously you used a DVX for the static shots?

Re: rough car mount tests

I really like the movie with the Jeep! What kind of music did you use? It's really nice! Nice picture too!

here is another pic of the mount for you Taylor_Moore, hope this helps a bit, basicly it just bolts to the frame. pretty simple. not sure how it wold work on a car. i had to drill 2 holes for the bolts.  the strap is for safety.

speedbump, thanks for sending it to your friends. hope they dig it. i did shoot it all with the dvx, i just didnt have it on the mount in the previous pic, all you were seeing was the mount, and the bogen 501 head.

JKL, the music was an amon tobin track called "four ton mantis".

thanks guys, im planning the shoot now for the spots, might do a couple. i'll post some stuff soon.

it was a bit scary havin it hangin out like that, but it was pretty secure. i covered it with a rain jacket that i had left over from my xl1s, that keeps the dust out pretty well. and i also had a matte box with filters to protect the lens.

Re: rough car mount tests

Nice footage.

I have done similar things with my camera. Using the head off a monopod bolted to a plate that I attach to my bullbar. I get some good results from it but it looks like the setup you have is more flexible. I might have to have a look and see if I can improve on my design. Unfortunately my situation makes posting any of the footage I've shot difficult.
