Rolling Shutter in Major Films

So i started to watch tons of films shot on RED and Cmos type cameras that have been shown in Major Theaters, and I have noticed that all of the movies I have reviewed all have aliasing and rolling shutter, but they make use of it.

This leads me to belief that using our DSLRs for Major Budget Films is Ok,.

Just an Observartion,

One of the Films I reviewd today was gamer ,, Full of artifacts,..

personally I think its only a big deal if you make it one.

Don't let someone tell you what your limits should be. They're shooting TV episodes, music videos, commercials, etc, with these cameras.

If the overall film is good no matter what small techinical difficulties occur it in or what it is shot on why not. The amount of people who even care about aliasing and rolling shutter in the world is probably %5 if even that. Not everyone watching movie is a nitpicking filmmaker. Youve got to think outside the world of just dvxuser sometimes.

exactly my point.. I just read all the post on here and get worried about aritfact but in reality even FILM has themlike that ugly burn mark in the corner from where they cut the film over.. anyhow.. I agree as long as the story is awsome the rest is history.

How do you know they're a bi-product of capture and not projection?

it does not matter, you still see it in the END.. thats the point . the end product is what counts and it seems that dslrs are a good alternative to Millions of Dollars in a big budget film, I rather pay my special effects and Stunt people more for a better render, and better actors, and a better story, than in a technology that is soon going to be replaced.

I actualy start Production Next week on a decent budget film and Im excited to use the DSLRs as my A cam.

Not sure about rolling shutter but I see Moire in almost every NBA broadcast. Mostly on the suits the hosts wear. Chris Paul was lit up last night. It was very distracting.

We are all spoiled in a sense….. I guarantee you that if none of us were into filmmaking we would never notice any type of artifact. And even if we did…it would go right above our heads.

But unfortunately…hanging out in forums like these I’ve turned into a madman…

Me: Hey honey….look at all that noise…(pointing at the movie screen)

Wifey: Huh…what are you talking about?

Me: The noise…it’s everywhere…can’t you see it?

Wifey: (with a dumb look on her face)Noise? Are you feeling alright?

Me: Woman…pay attention…it’s right there in front of your eyes. I know you’re not blind….

Wifey: (kissin her teeth while looking at me out the corner of her eyes) KNEE GROW PLEASE!!!

Just watched "I Love You Man" There was a scene where one of the main characters was wearing sport jacket that was an absolute moire nightmare from hell (shot on film I believe). The wife didn't notice it a bit.

Me: Dumb B&#tch, you don't see that! (after waiting patiently for more than a minute for her to say something about it)

Wife: What??

Me: That!! (pointing frantically at the screen)

Wife: Yeah, he's cute.

Me: My god! No! This! (getting up and circling the area I was referencing)

Wife: What?

I hate this forum. ...... :-) It's probably the main cause of friction in my relationship.

If you want further insanity, go to a certain forum where they 're discussing that 1080P isn't good enough and is the VHS of tommorrow ...and soon. The day that 1080P is no longer the broadcast standard is the day that my children's children are dead and Jesus has come back.

If 1080P is the VHS of tomorrow, 4K is the betamax. We know which format won. And it's because of people like my wife!

I agree with all you guys,, we are spending to much time reading about the down side and how to improve on those DSLRs and its great, but if i where to grab somebody from the street and show him the outcome of those DSLRs he will be stunned even if its full of rolling shutter and aliasing..

The Fight has just begun between DSLR manufacturers.. let us wait and see :)
