Roll Call - Who's In (running list)

Don't worry about length at this point, just write it & see that it's strong. If it's WAY too long (i.e. 15 pages+), then look to see where you can cut out some fat without hurting the story/characters too much.

Even if after it's shot, if you're at 7-8 minutes, you'd be amazed how much you can clean/tighten something up in post to get it to the required max.

I just watched Solaris again. I felt the urge to enter Sci-Fest, but I just got way too much going on right now. I think some of us who know we don't stand a chance should back down and keep the contest less cluttered.

I think everyone has a chance. I certainly feel I have a great chance. Even though this will only be my second short film.

A guy winning something on only his second short film?

... well I guess stranger things have happened

I'm in, been thinking about this like crazy, running around trying to find a DVX rental shop here in London. I don't mind shooting with what I have [Sony MiniDV] and not being entered into the contest but will exhibition films still be included in the final dvd? I can understand if not.

Probably not since only the top 10 or so films will be on this DVD -- so if it can't place then probably won't be on the DVD ... sorry. Hope you find a DVX.

Thanks for the answer jdanstan.

Woa, only around 10+. That's gonna be some high quality work.
I'm really glad I checked in today. Thanks again.

edit :

Yes! Finally found a company to rent me their DVX100 at £95 per day, looks like I'm down with the scene after all.

My first short was accepted into a film festival, and only submitted to five.

I'm in on this one, just for the learning experience. I don't expect to win any prizes but to get in the top ten is something to aim for.

This is my first post, hope this makes me eligible. Is there an entry form yet?
Nope, when they start to accept submissions they'll put up a link (look at the rules thread to see what date that is) and then you just go to that link and there you will upload, and on that page it will ask you your title and two or three questions about your film like its name a log ling (so think about that before hand - last time we were all like "... uh ... uh ... log line? uh ... it's a film that's .... uh like uh .... good and stuff ... uh..." ) and then they take uploads through midnight Jan 31.

I'm in. I finally got word back from my work. They are going to let me borrow the DVX from the commercial dept! Yay! Now I don't have to pay $400 for a weekend rental.
