Rokinon 85mm 1.4

I was going to pick this lens up. Anyone used it with a DSLR?

Its the same brand as samyang, opteka, ect.

Looks a good price no?

Wow this might be one of those "sleepers" that people just haven't heard about. Hunting around for reviews the only real complaints seem to be from people who aren't used to the full manual focus and aperture (amateurs).

I'm very interested to hear from anyone who has used one of these too.

Good find.

OK, I read so many good reviews about this lens and the fact that if you search for it with Bing, you can get it from Overstock.com for about $225 so I went ahead and bought it.

I'll let you know once I get it.

I have one in a Nikon mount and it's a great lens, really solidly built (with the weight to prove it), sharp, and very smooth (if a little stiff) focusing action. The iris ring is notched to half stops, which is a little weird, but not really a problem. It's not a closeup lens (MOD is 3ft) but that's usually fine at this focal length.

If you can get it for $225, definitely go for it. I think I payed around $300 on eBay with some throwaway accessories included.

Selling my D90 soon to get a 7D, planning on keeping this lens with a mount adapter since it's full-manual anyway.

yeah i ordered the lens too the same day i posted this.
i found a video online demo-ing the lens with a DSLR, its from a polish site, search for samyang 85mm, its the same lens as rokinon just different name

I'm also interested in this lens, so whenever you get the opportunity to post some footage please do so.

I'm not even sure when it arrives. As soon as it does I'll shoot and post something. Firemountain if you beat me to it let me know.

Oh man that baby is officially getting ordered thanks man hey can you post a link to where I can find those smooth aperture lenses

LOL, I especially like the shot of the duck taking a dump.

Great looking lens though. Love the footage.

is there no IS or OS on those lenses... and how can I order those Samyang lenses being I am in the states... also I would like the smooth ones just a noob question is that what aspherical

In Germany, this lens goes under the name 'Walimex', don't know if that's the name for any other countries too.

Thanks for the videos Opherba!

BTW, your Vienna video is still as wonderful as when you first posted it. How long is the focus throw on the 85mm?

A lens with one or more lens surfaces that are not a sphere, which makes them harder to make, but opens up a million options for lens design allowing for things like more light, smaller size, limit distortion, better color (CA etc), and so on.
