how's the rotation distance for focusing on this lens in both normal and macro setting? I'm looking for a good DSLR lens with a decent focus range. Tried the Nikon 60mm macro and it was literally millimetres when in regular mode :/

The Rokinon is an all manual lens, there is no actual "macro" or "normal" setting on the lens. I've used it in macro and regular situations regularly and the focus rotation distance was shorter compared to my other manual focus lens, but not something I noticed unless trying to track a fast moving object.

I've used the Canon L 100mm Macro, and that lens' focus rotation distance is super, super small, sounds like it's similar to the Nikon 60mm. The Rokinon is definitely easier to use than the Canon, so I assume easier than the Nikon as well.

What will be your primary uses for the lens?

thanks for reply. I just meant that if you're not shooting macro (regular) regular focus distances for 100mm what's the rotation vs the rotation when you are shooting 1" from the lens. On the Nikon 60mm macro I tested, the macro had WAY more range than "regular". which was bizarre and caused my 1st AC MAJOR grief whilst on a shoot with it. From what you describe, the Rokinon seems better.

I mostly use macros for product shoots but it really depends on the creative direction of the specific shoot I'm doing.

Oh I see what you mean. Yeah I mean, when I'm shooting super, super close the focus is obviously a little touchier, I think that's just the nature of shooting macro, but I was always able to nail focus fairly easily.

Are you potentially interested in the lens?

Thanks,
Dan
