roganFILMs and Cowboy Scene Films present....

Nice job, guys. Simple and effective! Nice character driven piece. Technically is was good all around. Definitely not what I was expecting, which was very refreshing. :)

Going to come back in a while after I watch it again.

I loved the dialogue in this - particularly Johnny. Definitely cracked me up. One thing that I missed was some kind of flicker from the fire - with the whole film shot around a fire, it felt odd that the lighting was steady the whole time. The sound was great, I really liked your fx, the wind in particular. It sounded great.

Rogan this was a pleasant surprise, I honestly thought you were going to do a corny jokey thing about beans and farts. Instead I got an honest and believable conversation between friends who survived a duel over a woman they both loved (right?). The acting and dialogue were subtle and relaxed and authentic, and the sound design and campfire atmosphere were spot on. You made a simple short that accomplished what it was intended to do. And i liked how the fella fell asleep at the end. Good score too. Thumbs up man.

Thanks for the reaction on the sound design. :2vrolijk_08:

Dustin....Jason.... excellent film! You had me right from the opening.
The first :45 is just spot on for me, the looks are great, the score was perfect, sound design,
everything. It just got better from there! I think you also nailed the pace, no rushing, smooth.

Sorry I don't really have anything negative to say....hat's off to you both & the whole crew for a job really well done! Thank you.

thanks for the comment on the sound design :2vrolijk_08:

Small mistake in my website during the credits...

www.philipsfilmsound.com (with one L)

it's like the brand...which I don't own....unfurtunantly...otherwise I would invite everyone here (yes al 4646 members) for a BBQ at my place :p

A serious piece, with laughs. A dark comedy. I call it that because of the ending. This one really got me, and I think you might have the best story of the bunch here. I felt like I connected with the characters right away. The chemistry was natural all the way through. Good pacing and look. Would have liked to see a little more coverage during the short, as the angles got a bit repetitive. VERY good work on this one!

This was a nice breath of fresh air in the fest - a break from the norm. It was good too see stakes that weren't high (yes, life and death, but very underplayed). I think the subtlety of the situation made the humor work. Kudos especially to Jason's performance.

A couple minor things that stood out to me: Dustin turning his back for the speech felt forced, and more plot driven than naturally motivated. Secondly the sound was not quite top notch, and made some of the deliveries a little hard to hear.

Otherwise this was a really enjoyable film. Excellent work.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. I wasn't feeling all that great about the film, so I'm glad the reaction to it has been so good.

I'm enjoying this fest so far, I've only watched a few shorts, but the quality has been very high.

LMAO! this made me laugh. good film. the delivery by the actors was convincing, jus tthe low light image quality is the biggest thing that detracted me, i guess hvx200 isn't that great at low light conditions.
really effective story though, nicely done.

I love when we get to see uncommon moments in films like the one in this one. Simple film in the best possible way. Liked the characterization and the dialogue was spot on. LOL...good job on this one guys. I enjoyed it.

The HVX did a good job, and we actually darkened the image in post. The problem that we had was with compression. Everything that we exported under the 60mb requirement was very low in quality and looked very noisy & muddy when compared to the original.

I feel you. In my first couple of renders, my one dark scene went to absolute trash from the compression. While I picked up the occasional bad spot on yours, overall I think it came out quite well on this.

yes it's because the direct sound was full of cicades. So to make it as it was one piece I had to add some things. But it could have been worse :p

about how many times it'd crash before i could render...but I'd like to take this time to thank Jason for doing one last film with us Waco boys and wish him nothing but the best in the big city! Gary and Dick for all you guys do to make this thing happen. And you guys from the site for saying such nice things about our lil flick!

Don't you just hate cicadas! They plagued parts my film too that and the damn plane who decided to circle overhead.

I thought you guys did a good job on this one. I liked the back and forth with the two men although it gets a little too talking head for me, a little more independent action would've helped. I liked the ending. I was totally thrown for a loop by the tone of the film which you know what did it justice. Good work!

Enjoyed this Dustin. Definitely liked the tone.

I loved your character Dustin! So likeable.

Simple and effective. Great reveals.
