Ritz Camera files for bankruptcy

Well bankruptcy and protection from creditors are one thing, but closing down is a bag that will leave another large group of people out of work. Hope they can resolve this.

It's to be expected. They are a bunch of lairs and crooks.

I don't wish anyone out of a job given the current economy, but I hope they end up like Circuit City. The world will be a better place for it.

I remember them. There was a Ritz Camera in my neighborhood several years ago, they overcharged for everything, and ruined the prints for some contest pics I had developed there.

Fortunately the negs were ok, and I had the enlargements done over at an independent shop. Used the indie exclusively after that.

That is why Ritz is going away. :zombie_smiley: They suck. The few dedicated film/darkroom guys won't deal with them, they want expertise.

BTW, my local Kroger's has closed their Photo dept, they are putting in a nurse-practitioner mini-clinic.

How long before "camera shops" vanish altogether ??? :undecided:

The one near me stays busy... but they are one of the last bastions of what was Wolf Camera. (Wolf was great before Ritz bought them out). The folks at our local store are honest and really know their stuff... and they are constantly fighting with Ritz corporate to keep their store customer-friendly. I actually shop there on occasion, mostly because of the staff... I'd hate to see it go.

When all these crappy stores close, though, they endanger companies that they owe. Ritz owes Nikon 26 million dollars, alone.

I don't about Ritz but Best Buy can't be too far behind. In the last month alone I've gone in for 5 different items and they've been out of stock of each one of them.
A in November I went in twice to buy a new 24" Imac and each time they "just sold the last one".
Amazon got all my duckets each time. Other then B and H it's Amazon for me from now on.

For a second, my heart skipped. I thought it said Ritz Crackers going out of business. I was about to stock up. I love those things. I don't care about the camera shop, though.
