FEATURE: Rise of the Beast-the new feature from STARS Pictures

How are you getting such clean keys? Our green screen (no offense) is much more lit than yours and has very few if any wrinkles and I can't seem to get a key that clean.. whats the secret?

I like the shadow by the way.
Thanks Nate

No offense taken. lol
I used to spend a lot of time downloading green and blue screen shots from the web and would practice keying them. I'd also rip BTS vids from Sin City and Sky Captain and practice on those too. There's a lot of tricks I learned, but in this case I added a "Hue/Saturation" in AE and boosted just the greens to make them pop a bit more. Then I used Keylight to pull the key, adding a slight bit of Screen Gain to pull a good key from the hair. That's basically it. The "key" though, is to just practice on as many different shots as possible.

in this green screen you made mistake with light source and switched left right ,it looks unnatural/
Light comes from left side on background pic but your face is lit from right.Watch out for this.

Day 26 of filming.

We had Chelsea and Alex come over for our last night of greenscreen. Her boyfriend Thomas came too so he ran BTS. We managed to bust out all the shots in just over an hour, so not too bad. After they left, Alex shaved and cut off some of his hair to make himself younger. Then we shot one of the "Transition Scenes" that takes us from Leap to Leap 2. Next time I see him, Alex should have all his hair cut off and look just like he did in the last movie and we'll get the other Transition Scene and then do all of his ADR.

As far as the bad guy stuff, I'm hoping to do it early December. I'll probably be renting a conference room from a local Super 8 motel. It'll cost $50, but I'm hoping to swing a hotel room location out of it too. We'll see.

I created a follow focus for the camera today by wrapping some white electrical tape around the lens. It works like a charm!

In the news of Derek, I heard an awesome testimony last Saturday at church that I want to incorporate into the flick. I came home to start adding to my notes, but when I went to dig up the folder on my laptop, the Derek folder has vanished. Just the Derek folder. All my other movies were still there: Wulf, Leap, Leap 2, Eden, The Flood, Sodom, and Ruby White-all there. In light of this, and my experiences on the first Leap, I've coined a new term-Digital Demons.

Not ROTB related, but it shows what I'm up to with my gear. My "agent" (he gets me a lot of freelance work) and I shot a commercial today for AC Larocco Pizza. It's super healthy and endorsed by Weight Watchers. The vid is rendering now, but here's a grab. Shot on my greenscreen in their office here in Spokane. The fun part was dealing with the green on her apron. I ended up using a garbage matte on a duplicate track without keylight that I tracked to the logo. Then I pre-comp'd those two layers and added my grade to the new comp

Very slick looking sir!

After spending a week in San Jose, CA, I finally finished the commercial today. Once A.C. LaRocco approves it, I'll post it on here.
I'm currently rendering one of the bridging scenes of Leap 2 to see how that looks on my parents' new 60in LED tv tomorrow. I'm looking forward to that =) Once Thanksgiving is over we'll shoot the bad guys scenes and we're done!

July 26th was our start. Two weeks of straight shooting, then here and there since.

Started working on the big explosion today and for once I'm looking for feedback ;) What would make it better?

Picture looks cool (of the explosion) but do you have a full video. That's what will tell the tale.

Yeah, I did an explosion in post one time and the pics looked great. The explosion in real time was not so great though, so I agree with jls4. The footage is the real test.

I'd expect to see reflection from the explosion elsewhere, like reflective surfaces of the car, the side of the tree, and elsewhere. Also, the fireball looks too white.

I don't have a complete video yet-I'm still in the middle of rotoing the actor. Good idea about reflections on the car. Once the roto is done I'll start on that.
