FEATURE: Rise of the Beast-the new feature from STARS Pictures

That swat team is a good representation of the police force budget cuts.

There like" gentleman, we had only enough money this year to buy only one pair of knee pads and one gas mask. So you guys without one are going to have to hold your breath." hehe

Thanks for that. That last pic rocks. LOL. Great looking SWAT team. Are you going to do the old clone trick and have a massive squad break in and run all over the place. I think that would surprise everyone when they see it.
I almost did, but I thought about and realized that if I did, I couldn't get some of the dolly shots that I ended up using.

Sorry about the blur on this one. The camera was doing a pretty quick dolly

Thanks man.
BTW, replaced the shot of Luke on the pier with a better grade.

In case anyone is just finding this thread, we're filming with the T2i and the kit lens, keeping it between the 30mm and 50mm mark. I wouldn't recommend going this route to anyone, as our lowest f-stop this way is 4.5, but it is doable if you're short on funds and have a story to tell. Those who know me know that I'll usually disagree with people about techniques, but in this case, those who say to buy a 50mm 1.8 if you can afford are giving good advice. When the movie is over and I can start saving up again, it'll be the next thing I buy. In the mean time, I'll enjoy having the honor of saying we're one of the first T2i features, and maybe even the first using just the T2i w/kit lens (I could be wrong here, but it's a nice thought)

Day 12
Well, we have now officially shot for as long as it took to shoot both “Wulf” and “Leap”. On this film though, we still have around 8 or so days left. We finally shot our first fight scene. It’s a small one where Shane and Luke are running from a bad guy, Luke is captured, and Shane goes back to save him. We filmed it on top of a parking garage in CDA in about two hours. The only injury we had was that Alex accidentally hit Ben in the eye. No damage was done.
After filming, Alex brought me back into Spokane and we brainstormed for a bit about what to do next. The concept we came up with will challenge my faith in ways I can’t even imagine, as well as those who work with me. My idea is to do a movie for a mainstream audience, with a Christian worldview of spiritualism. It’ll deal with what ghosts really are and what possession is really like.
I received a phone call today from the American Humane Society wanting to know if I was going to be using any animals in ROTB. I told them yes, my dog, and they said they would be in touch with me to register. I’m not sure what that means, but okay.
Saturday we shoot the big extras day, so that should be fun.

You knock these things out fast. I like that. I'm actually slowing it down a bit for this one because of all the special effects and special casting needs. Your idea to do "a movie for a mainstream audience, with a Christian worldview of spiritualism" is exactly where I'm at right now. I'm simply doing it from a fantasy perspective. It's interesting how it's turning out as I find doing anything from a Christian worldview is controversial to say the least. As for the AHS the tell them, "No I won't throw my dog off a roof. Leave me alone." LOL.

I just don't see the point in dragging out a production. This one feels much slower for me too, I've never taken this long before. lol

I like your way of handling the animal people. My actors and I were talking about earlier. We agreed that a lot of the Hollywood BS (IMDB, unions, etc...) is like money- We'll play by the rules and pretend it's worth something, but it's really not. And sometimes we'll say the money is no good and come up with our own system.

Filming today (Extras Day) went awesome, I'll get the journal up soon

Days 13 and 14
It’s been a busy past two days of filming. On Saturday we shot the outreach scenes with the extras. We had about 20 or so people show up at the forestry shelter in Riverfront Park and everything went smoothly. We shot the two scenes in a little under an hour. We brought my work lights with us and used them to pump a little extra light on everyone.
Today we shot the scene where James and the girls meet up with Gabriel, as well as some parts of their chase through the city. Gabriel is a guy named Eric that I met for the first time last Thursday when we were filming a fight scene. He just had the perfect look. We shot in downtown Spokane and I was on my skates all day which allowed us to get some amazing “dolly” shots. Also, I’m very proud of my actors! We shot for a mere two hours and they were running almost the entire time. They didn’t complain once! These guys are awesome!

I figured these would come in handy

Hi i was checking out your thread. You have some great action going on here. Your thread and epitaphs are very cool. Maybe because your all in non stop production! Good luck!

Sweet Vids Nate! I actually have one of those on DVD and have seen a few of the others, but definitely good stuff.

@Lee: Thanks man! Good luck with yours too

Update:
Just for fun I thought I'd try out Adobe Premiere again. It's been seven years since I've used it last. I used to be really good with it, but now, after seven years of Vegas, it's a no-go. I find it goofy, cumbersome, and all around clunky/slow. I've been spoiled, and it's not worth using it. Yeah, it's integration with AE is cool, but that's about the only good point it scores with me. My Vegas timeline goes to AE just fine, so I'm not too worried. I know there are many editors who use PP, and I know they can produce good work, but I'll stay on the fringe with Vegas and continue to try to convert people ;) But seriously, as an editor, I just tell people to try them all and see what they like best. For me, it's Vegas.

Had one of my composers come over today to see what he could do with a six note melody I came up with. The melody was based on some music from The Bourne Supremacy where Jason burns the photos of Marie. So my composer comes over, listens to my melody, then within 10 minutes has created this awesome track on my music setup! I'll upload it shortly for you guys to hear. It made my jaw drop, and I'm thrilled to know that the music will sound as good as the movie looks =)

You get that Keyboard on eBay? I got a nice one from eBay for $30, full sized Casio with Midi, but I had to buy something to get the midi into the computer. I use it with Garageband.
