RIP dvxuser Matt Grunau.

Very sad news indeed, I couldn't believe when I read Matt and RIP together. Really sorry for his family. A big loss.

Matt contacted me by phone when he and his wife separated. He was really messed up. I stayed in touch with him until I had to move out of my place which was last May. That year was hard for him. Matt was an alcoholic. He knew it, but he wasn't taking the appropriate steps when I was communicating with him to stop drinking.

He got out of his house. I gave him advice for a short time while I was still in contact with him in how to handle his move, his stuff, etc. He got a job then lost that job. Again, he was drinking the hard stuff. While I am surprised, I'm not surprised. My last conversation with him, he was really, really messed up.

He did show signs of anxiety disorder (fear at ever corner, impending doom, etc.). It was really a very, very difficult time for him. I had tried to call him a few months back, never heard back but his phone was still working then. Honestly, he was far gone. He made many mistakes with his drinking.

He missed the birth of his son because he was too drunk. He totally admitted he had a problem. I don't think he got around to fixing it, I don't know. He was set to work on "Agent Raven" post production is how he and I kept in touch. I knew him when he was living at home and when he was not.

This is sad all around. For those of you who drink heavily, I hope you are reading this. He use to work down in the basement alone and take a few shots just to get started with work. Being alone in that basement was not a good thing for him. Finally wifer had enough and that's when I got the call that he was in trouble.

I hope you guys do remember him as a good guy. But for those of you with like addiction I hope you see this as a wake-up call. Get help, before it's too late.

Yeah that sucks balls.

Alcohol is sneaky in the wrong/right hands... what makes it hard to conquer an alcohol problem is you're lucky if you can find a couple people to support you in the fight.

If you know somebody that needs help... help them.

RIP Matt... my age... that could have been me.
 
All I can say is WOW, This is a great community! It's heart warming to see people acknowledge, and pay their respects to a fellow artist. I feel like people actually care for one another around here. It's like a large extended family in a way and it a good feeling to be a part of such a great group of people.

Though I never had the pleasure, I would still like to say RIP. And god bless your family.

I hear you MattinSTL. Im the same age, and feel the same. Im sober for six years, but there's times where the urge creeps back, and yes a support system is priceless. That one voice is enough to make you reason, and make the right decision.

Extremely sad news. No, let me restate that... worst news I've heard in a long long long time.

While I may not have frequented the same topics on here as Matt Grunau did, I could never ever forget that crazy frogman pic. The frogman is evidence of the type of fun loving sense of humor and extremely awesome talents of Mr. Grunau. Not only that, but he was a knowledgeable and very helpful DVXUSER member.

RIP Matt.
