Rig sticks and steadi..

Squig mentioned various configurations and accesories

I should clarify that it is my intention in time to make the joint (and some other bits) available over time for users to create any configuration they desire

ANd with the cost and availability of the tubing one can basically create thier own rig to thier own specs

My configuration was created after trialling many different lenghts and configurations, something I could afford to do because of the cost of the tubing (low)

I envision..

-This is a good configuration
-A more cagelike configuration would be more suited to accesories
-a more stripped down configuration would be best for adding intertia in the pan plane for steadicam use

My mountain bike shots http://www.vimeo.com/5359163 (ultra low mode) were created using this rig and a handle added via more tubes and some ARRI grip clamps

You know that the 7D HDMI output is full screen not down converted to 480p like the 5Dm2, that is brilliant on it's own. Looks like it also handles motion better for our purposes.

6 months ago I was a big fan of the Bloom 'dungeness' etc look great

He seems to have lost the plot since he is using DSLRs and that little unstable unfocusable Z rig

His recent footage is IMO a POS (Pile of s..)

my reel is far more testing of dslrs IMO and Ive actually got some useable handheld under my belt - using this very rig

He has been offered a review copy but maybe his corporate ties forbid this

Hey Morgan, my Blackbird is arriving today! I decided to go with it rather than the Merlin because (hopefully) the Blackbird will also fly my EX1.

I'm still interested in your device but right now we're buying a new house so I need to keep my purchases in check during the qualification process, ha!

Cool

Buying a house - a little rig on the mortage - you wont even notice - let alone with all these cheap loans right now - its certainly bought me the time to do all this fiddling - no longer a mortage slave of the proportions I was once

Very pleased with this rig.
It's very stable and easy to use and it's much cheaper than most alternatives.
Only negative would concern the Follow Focus that doesn't work with every single lens.
It works like a charm with lenses that have big fat focus rings (like the zeiss ze/zf) but not so well to not at all with lenses that have the tiny focus ring (such as canon 50mm 1,8 or nikon equivalent).
But I'm not dissapointed as I knew this before buying it.
Sam is very open and honest about his rig, and was very quick to reply to any and all of my enquiries.
So definitely no regrets :)
