Id say that the placement of other FF for a lone operator are plain dumb - its cool full stop
with a bit of backing it could be really cool - as I said above Im working on other materials/solutions
Again - DL the file, and judge the move into the car then laugh at the other rig makers who dare post nothing

Well, I dunno if it's plain dumb. It will only make sense, however, if you're used to using a follow focus and probably have a whip with your FF as well. My FF is still right by the lens, but there's a 12" whip that hangs down near my let hand, pretty much exactly where your wheel is.
Just have to actually get a whip. I.E Money, and again the DIY Skate Wheel is neat for some pick and pull parts.
No, a Pro Follow Focus with a Whip costs around 3000.00. 1000.00 is the marker for "works for 1000.00 but wish it was good as the 3000.00 one"
Lol
You lost me. I only know one definition of Professional Class. Me not know subs.
Oh, okay. I guess a fork is a professional tool in the hands of a professional.
Now that I'm clear on that, I'm going to start selling forks to professionals.

Your shot of a refocus in a hair salon is pretty much the only motivated single operator stable handheld focus pull in shot that I have seen on a 5d that has not been operated by me
I have considered how you did this and guessed correctly that a whip was involved
We see from that shot that being a skillful or pro operator in both configuration and use of a the kit is a large part of the equation
If your rig is configured with an intelligently placed whip then it is not a 'dumb'(ly configured) rig
Unlike the set ups we see in the marketing from the manufacturers which is IMO dumb
My dream rig would have a conventional geared (and those gears should be changable in ratio) FF with a whip ending with the control point placed as mine is
at that point we would have a great solution and most likely a very expensive tool
that would be a perfect solution for some sectors of the market - not a sector I am currently targeting
Again my design has other advantages over that dream configuration in terms of mass, ease of deconstrction, ability to reconfigure/remove, physical robustness, avialability of spares etc
It is also worth, if one is kitting up from scratch, when considering the purchase of a costly FF, that developments by Mr Hudson, Mr Hocus and the market in general that we may be only a month or two from creating an electronic, IR solution or even Iphone App solution - importantly those should solve the gear ratio issues

With Squig. Especially if you can get an elastic band that'll be tough enough for glass with hard stops and stubborn rings.
