Reviewing Footage on Location

You have the lights set up, the camera is ready to roll, you have attached an external 7 inch monitor and the art director is standing over your shoulder..Camera is the Canon A-1. I read where it is not good practice to start and stop the tape and rewind and play to review. This could cause dropouts. So my question is how do you let the director review a take while on the set if he/she wants to see a "take" from a previous shot from maybe 15 minutes prior??

You can't. That's the problem with tape. It needs to be rewound. Only other alternative is to use a Firestore and plug it into a laptop for viewing.

Is the Firestore simply a fast hardrive that runs on batteries??? What if I didn't care if the unit ran off battery power? Could I just bring along an AC powered fast Firewire Hardrive to accomplish the same task? What are the cable hookups during shooting?

No, you can't simply take a firewire hard drive and plug it into the camera. It just won't work; people have tried it.
