Resolution vs Pixel Count (by Steve Yedlin, ASC)

I recently installed some Cree LED lamps in my wife's SUV. They're surprisingly intense, yet the COB chips used are the same dimensions as the original filament in the halogen bulbs they replace. They're brighter than the HID lamps in the main headlight system yet use the same or less power.

I'm working on a searchlight conversion which involves a LED lamp with 10,000 lumens output and again, the light emitter area is very tiny.

A few years ago, there were 100W LED lamps that were about an inch square. Tech has advanced considerably from that time. LEDs are now >100 lumens/watt.

I will point out that the new Panasonic EVA1 can resolve 2000 line pairs clearly. This is because it utilizes a 5.7K sensor to deliver a proper 4K image. This resolution capability is beyond what any 4K sensor can capture, and the difference is quite clear to the eye when viewing side-by-side or one-after-another on a 4K monitor. I have seen it myself.

So how does this compare to the Varicam35 sensor, which is only 4K Mitch ?
Does this mean that the EVA1 outresolves it ?

Strictly on an MTF measurement, looking at the resolving power as measured by line pairs, the EVA1 out resolves ANY camera with a native 4K sensor. This should be expected. 4K is 8.8 million photo sites while 5.7K is 17.2 million photo sites. And no matter what Mr. Yedlin states, if you wish to up resolving power then you should always utilize a capture resolution greater than your display resolution.
