Resolution Chart

I've modified it to include corrections as well as the 2.39:1 Aspect ratios for 4k and 2k digital cinema as well. I thought it was quite interesting to see that 2k Digital Cinema actually has less pixels than True HD, it just goes to represent the jump in resolution to 4k!

I think 2k is 2048 x 1152, and 4k is 4096 x 2304, although the DCI spec also has 2048 x 1080 as a variant on 2k.

All Red aspect ratios are 16 x 9.

The "full pixel array" is of somewhat academic interest since those pixels outside of the 4.5k frame are masked off (used for setting black level etc., but not image-forming). So I wouldn't bother listing it, and especially not the 1.90:1 aspect ratio which implies it actually forms an image.

For imaging purposes, the maximum Red resolution is the 16:9 2540p frame.

That brings up an issue I did not think about. Since the 4K and 2k aspect ratios do not match the 1080P ratio, does the mean I need to crop as well as resize in REDCINE, or is it just close enough to just scale?

Out of curiousity more than anything else I made this chart at a scale of 10:1 (albeit 4k is 0.4 pixels inaccurate and 2k is 0.2 pixels inaccurate on the horizontals). I was just wondering if the numbers were all correct or if I'd made any mistakes. I also tarted it up so it looks nice and official Red like :)QUOTE]

Proteus made a rather nice chart a while back along with conversion factors:

Actual image pixels on full sensor are 4700x2540 - rest are black calibration pixels. And yes, 4k and 2k are 16:9 4096 and 2048 wide.

Thanks Martin, I actually quoted the same thread for someone else earlier heh!

Proteus chart is great, but it's more to do with lenses on the sensor rather than the size of the resolution and area of the sensor being used in windowed mode or representing the difference in size when scaling the image.

Yes. I thought it complimented your chart rather nicely though.
