Renting AF100- couple yes/no questions (mostly)

I'm using an EOS 70-200 2.8 with adaptor- will I need rods and support?

Will I be able to interchange SD cards with my b-cam HMC150 without reformatting?

Can I get away with critical focus on the cam's LCD or is an outboard monitor a must for interviews?

I may be doing some shoulder mount work with my habbycam mount. Is the viewfinder situated similarly to the 150?

TIA

I tried searching for these for about a half hour, so I thought I'd just ask...

If the lens weighs more than 2.2 lbs then you will need support.

Yes

You should practice with the focus assist so you know how to interpret, but you should be able to hit focus with it.

The VF comes off the back, just like the 150, but at a slightly different height.

--> LCD .. i would say if you can get a smallHD DP6 or equivalent monitor, you'll be able to see *much* better
what's going on.

--> 70-200mm is heavy glass .. i would get supports for that.

I thought I would follow up with some of my impressions of the camera. (Coming from an HMC150 user)

Build Q- I was very impressed. The body, buttons and switches felt like they were on a whole other level than the 150. It felt like a pro camera vs the 150 feeling prosumer.

Viewfinder- I wish the viewfinder and LCD could be on at the same time like the 150. I missed focus on a couple of shots while using the LCD. It's clear and nice, but a bit too small IMO.

Menu functionality- Very nice and user friendly. Menus were "easier on the eyes" than the 150 for sure. I never could figure out how to get the shutter to 1/48 for 24p- I just left the camera on 1/60. I come to find out there is a 180deg setting, but I could never find it and I was crunched for time. It was great transitioning to the AF100 b/c of the similar functionalities of the two cameras. Also loved the THREE white balance presets vs. the 150's TWO. That made setup a lot easier.

IQ- The images were very eye-opening to me. 720/60p is so creamy and smooth. I'm seeing why there are complaints about the highlight rolloff, but I set my exposure accordingly and I was very happy with the images I captured. I used EOS L glass (mostly 24-70) and a Kipon adaptor with iris control. The adaptor seemed very nice- wish the iris somehow had better accessibility (not so close to the body).

In short, I want one desperately. It would be the ideal transition camera for me.

They can. Turn SDI to OFF, and EVF MODE to ON.

Nice summation, and I totally agree. I have both an HMC150 and an AF100 and they are excellent stablemates, and if you want to step up to a shallow-DOF cinema camera, it's the ideal migration path.
