SxS Card Driver Issue with New Mac Book Pro (Late 2008 version)

Sony has confirmed to me that there is an issue with the SxS card driver that is available on the Sony web site when used with the newly released Mac Book Pro. What happens is that after installing the SxS driver you restart the computer and it takes an inordinately long time to reboot, typically 3-5 minutes. I called Sony and asked them about this and they informed me that it has something to do with Apple's new trackpad. They said they are working on a fix, but have no timeline as to when it will become available. They said the workaround for now is to use the USB cable to move footage to the computer.

Nevertheless, despite the slow reboots the card is visible on the desktop and is recognized when I launch FCP. You just have to be really patient when restarting.

Does your MBP get any slower in operation?

Does your MBP get any slower in operation?

I've just bought the EX3, and found the same thing after installing the driver.

Why the H&(*ck don't they give a warning on their site!!

but now I find that my whole Macbook Pro is running slower. Clip Browser runs slowwww, and has crashed on a few occasions.

I hope sony produces a fix soon. Until then, any ideas on how I can REMOVE the damn driver...

Without the driver, can you connect your camera as a USB reader to import footage still?

Yes, that's what the dude at Sony told me. Use the USB cable to import footage from the EX1/3 to the computer. I haven't tried it, so I have no idea how it works, but that's what Sony is recommending until a fix is posted on their web site.

Bon Chance!

Hey Tongzie.

Go to the Sony web site:

https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software.aspx

Type in the model number of the camera and download the SxS software. Included in there is an uninstaller which will remove the offending drivers.

Good luck.

Thank you torv. I'll do that & download via sloooowww usb. better than having my laptop run like a dog. Ever since that driver install, my laptop hangs for times, maybe 5-10 mins with no obvious reason why.

Is any update concerning this issue yet?

Just bought MBP and, yes, this problem is in there :( But all the rest is brilliant! Especially speed of editing in Final Cut Pro having SSD disk and DDR3 memory chips

Finally, Sony has released an updated SxS driver that solves the problem with the new MacBook Pros. It can be downloaded here:

Why the Canadians get the fix before the US is a mystery to me. But then again, their health care system is better too.

New MacBook Pro and SxS Pro

I just purchased the Sony EX-3 , together with my New MacBook Pro an excellent duo. well, its not perfect yet, not only did my laptop took 3-5 minutes to reboot, it didnt reboot at all, the screen was just blue, nothing worked at all anymore!!
I had to bring it away to get it fixed. Now as a tip, if that happens you can restart pressing the shift button, that way so i have been told all the drivers are inactive. than you can uninstall the driver and restart.
I hope Sony comes with a solution soon and i think its a joke that when i buy a new camcorder there is no mentioning of it and the latest driver on the Sony site is from 2007!
