Rent my XHA1 for how much?

I have agreed to rent for a day my A1 with my Libec tripod and NTG-2 mic to an acquaintance from a local filmmakers group. How much should I charge her? She has done good work and I trust her, but still..... I can't just give it away for a day. What's a reasonable rate?

Thanks -- could not find this issue discussed anywhere on the site, surprisingly.

Hey there, Im interested in renting your camera too. My name is Joe DONO. You can check out the work I stole, I mean produced. If you go to my vimeo page. So I think two hundred is reasonable for a day. I will give you a credit card for a deposit. Then when Im finished, I will give you the 200.00.

Oh, and don't worry about my credit card name, TRAN Vu, is my nickname, so thats why it's on my credit card.

***********THIS IS A JOKE. ************If you google the name of Joe DONO, You can find lots of info on how this guy scammed many people out of their gear from renting it for a day. Not to say your friend would do this, but keep in mind there are people just waiting to take advantage of this type of situation. Just be careful, and research who your renting to. Some times a few hundred bucks isn't worth the headache of what could happen.

Haha, yeah, I get it and I have been scammed before, but I have sat across the table from this gal and she is legit. So you are saying $200. I am already regretting the offer somewhat.

Thanks

I thought 200.00 for the day was reasonable, but you check out rental places to see the going rate. Ihonestly have never rented my xha1's out before. So im only guessing

Also to cover yourself, get a couple of rental contracts and bone up on the wording covering *damage and loss* ... throw in one of your tapes while you smilingly explain it and get her to sign it.

Can't be too careful .. how will she capture her stuff?

Cheers.

Personally, I would rent your package for something like $100~$150 to a non commercial acquaintance. The problem more is in loss/damage insurance. If she has it, and can put you down, that's easy. But if not, it can get messy.

Not to change the topic completely, but I'm looking at possibly selling my canon xha1. I've owned it since 2008 and I've actually enjoyed the portability of my t2i and looking at something smaller like the canon xa10 to compliment it. I probably shot less than 20 shoots with it. I definetely know what I spent on it, but what would you sell a canon xha1, w/ canon wide angle lens, a couple hd mini dv tapes, Hard aluminum case, and obviously all the extras that came with the canon xha1 when I bought it? Three years ago I payed $350-$400 for the lens and around $250 for the case.

Maybe I should just do what Noj is doing and find a market for renting it. Make up the difference in a few months.

O/T Yep there's a lot to be said in selling any camera before the bottom drops out of its market and that will definately happen in time. To find a selling price, try searching Ebay, and the forums and keep a list. Selling in your area seems to be better, because buyers can inspect the rig, which imo most will want to do.

You could try offering it to local outfits which rent out on commission. imo renting to novices is out of the question .. be careful how you phrase it to them. HTH.

Cheers.
