Rendering times

Today after many months of stress I have managed to get my 550d footage into final cut directly using the canon plugin to convert to pro res, however..

the rendering times are still so long for the even short clips, is this how it is or is there a trick how to shorten this?

Thanks

All footage has been converted to pro res correct? Which version of pro res (regular, HQ, LT etc). Which version of final cut are you running? What hardware are you running (processors and ram please). What kind of effects are you using on the clip? If you can give me these answers and time rendering out a 1 minute clip, I would be happy to compare with our systems and you will have a better idea if you are really slow.

There should be no long 'render' times if you did this properly, so maybe there is a wrong turn here or there.

What codec did you choose? For DSLR choose either ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (LT).

When you create a sequence, drop the first clip on to it and let it change the sequence settings to match the CLIP and not the other way around. If you drop the clip on to a sequence that has the wrong setting then chances are FCP is going to want to re-render everything.

You can also check the settings of a sequence by right clicking on the sequence in the browser window then near the bottom left change the sequence to be the code you wanted (as well as checking that the aspect ratio etc at right).

Unless you are adding lots of effects, exporting a sequence using footage that is already the correct codec only takes a few minutes.

Thanks for the replies,

I have logged an transferred my footage to Pro Res 422 Regular, running latest version of Final Cut, Using Macbook Pro Latest Model, Intel i5 4GB Ram, basically ive added colour correction and a paparazzi lights effect (just to test) and its taking like 3-4 minutes to render, just wondering if this is normal

Thanks again

3 Minutes to render an hour would be fast.
3 Minutes to render 3 seconds would be slow.

So how long is your clip?
