Render GH2 in Vegas

I might also suggest 5DtoRGB for your intermediate, in the current versions of Vegas cineform is very error prone. It's free and corrects a few problems with the GH cameras.

Interesting. What sort of problems does Vegas have with Cineform? One of my editing workstations began to have problems rendering anything using VFW codecs, started with vegas and the Matrox codec, then tried DNxHD and found my VFW rendering was dropping blank frames left and right, and not just on vegas- it seems to have effected After Effects and Premiere as well. Thankfully, my other 2 workstations are fine but I've been wary to try another VFW based codec again since then.

And what exactly does 5DtoRGB accomplish btw? I've heard a lot about this recently, but I don't understand the logic behind it. Isn't it just transcoding to another format? What advantage does that have if your editor handles the raw data off your camera without a problem?

TheDingo I think all he's asking for is "what's the best setting to use in Sony Vegas if one chooses to go native?"
  • Russiana007 try this:
In the "Project Properties" just set the "field order" to "None (progressive scan) -- your "Pixel Aspect Ratio" to 1.000 (Square) -- your frame rate to 23.976 (IVTC Film) --- and Choose your "Pixel Format" as 32 bit floating point (video levels) OR 32-bit floating point (full range). <<< If you choose 32-bit floating point (full range) you have the option to choose either 1.000 (linear) or 2.222 (video) under the "Compositing gamma" field. Me personally....I like to use the 2.222 (video)

One more thing....when you get your clip on the timeline just make sure you "right click" every clip and choose "Switches" and then "Disable Resample." You should be set to work from here.

what does that do..disable resample?
