Renaming File Names

Hey guys,
I have a ton of footage from my thesis project. I have split all the footage up according to date so they are at least organized in that way. But I was wondering, as I am going thru and watching all these clips, could I change the name of the files so that when I import them into FCP I will know what they are instead of the file name the camera gives them which gives no indication whatsoever? Will that mess up some sort of ordering or anything of that nature like on the P2 workflow?
thanks a ton

There are 'THM' files that have the same name and go along with each MOV, they contain the meta data which FCP doesn't use (yet). You can rename the clip name after importing the files in FCP to keep track of them, or use all the other editable logging fields to identify the clips. You never know when the original file name could come in handy and I don't think there is a need to rename the original files.
