Removing DVX100A lens

Just wondering if anyone has removed the lens from the DVX. I've got some sand that appears to be behind the lens.

I took the guard plate off, that is held on by the two small screws and this revealed 4 more screws that appear to hold the lens assembly on.

Has anyone undone these screws? what happens?
