Remote viewing and control of a DSLR with an iPad

A friend of mine let me do a pre-release review of an app his company is making that will allow you to live view from a DSLR with an iPad, without having to tether or run it through a wireless transmitter. Pretty cool stuff.

How? Which company? Can I purchase it? Does it require a Laptop as the medium of the signal. Meaning DSLR -> Laptop -> iPad or straight to iPad = DSLR -> iPad?

it not just cool, but this is what most of this Forum MEMBERS has been asking for thousand times!!! Did you friend mention any release date or price for the apps?

Aahhhhhhh!!! Come on!!!! It has to be true!!!! Don't say it is an April Fool!!! Arghhhhh!!

The first clue should have been that this is literally not possible without a laptop. (And the fact it's April 1)

Now, if there was some kind of wireless USB receiver thingy (kind of like the okii follow focus -- but wireless) that could act as a "laptop" and could receive a signal, then it would be a different story.

Without a WFT, which is a $700 accessory, Canon DSLRs have no wireless tethering capability. With a WFT, however, this is entirely possible, although a 3rd party app is unnecessary - I've been remotely shooting via wifi with my Thinkpad tablet for over a year now, using Canon's own software.
