I, unfortunately will not be there. The Hocus Focus will possibly be on the Fujinon booth. If not, there will be a guy walking around with a small storm case. Maybe just go and ask him nicely, he will show you.....
Yeah, I have .8 for cine and .5 for canon. You think id make a silly mistake like that?!
The good news is, the gears snap on and snap off almost instantly, so if you do stick the wrong one on, at least you don't need a screwdriver and a lunch break to sort the problem out.
Hey Peter,
I would be very proud if i made a product like yours and it is mentioned in a total stabilizer review at the NAB by one of the best steadicam operators out there, Charles Papert !!
I did know about this, Charles is a freind, he has been offering me with suggestions for the HF unit.
I know this has been going on for a while, but its coming a long nicely. The HF unit was taken to NAB by a senior sales manager of a massive broadcast equipment company, and there was a lot of interest in the unit. I heard that there was a bit of a frenzy going on when Mikko Wilson was having a demo at the Tiffen stand, lots of people taking photos apparently.
Its close, if anyone is at IBC, I will be there. Also if anyone in the UK or London wants to see it in action, this can be arranged very easily.
I really love the color matched frequencies and reading up on the various progress you've made. Sorry to hear about your stolen goods but your inventing amazes me!
I have made the 19mm adapter and just had the 15mm rod mount for the RX back from the machine shop.
Here is the 19mm adapter:
It is wire cut from aerospace aluminium by a company that make F1 car parts and artificial knee joints. The tollerance on this part is +/- 3 microns (thats 0.003mm). Please excuse the alan bolt, will have a nice hand wheel nut thing on there soon.
Here is the RX mount.
It is designed to be very low profile, and it barely touches the rods. This sounds bad but it is very secure and strong, very lightweight, again from aerospace aluminium. The top claw section will be made from titanium for strength. Again, excuse the bolt, will be replaced soon. Again, tollerance is 3 microns, made by the F1 parts machine shop again.
I am aware that the title still says that price, but the product has grown. You can see through the 78 pages how the product has changed, and what it is now versus what it used to be. The Hocus Focus is now an advanced wireless focus device with standard sized focus wheel, secure digital wireless link, programmable stops, all made from aerospace materials to very tight tolerances with very advanced machines. Yes, the price has changed, but the product has changed with it. Two focus units have been sent to two major hire companys and are being used on two major TV shows (Ch4 and BBC). Wayne Kinney of shoot35 has seen the unit, as has Mikko Wilson and Charles Papert, all of which have given very positive feedback, saying that it is a very well made, tough, and functional unit, and this is just not possible for $300.
It all comes down to you get what you pay for, and if I sold the product for $300 it would not be up to the standards that I would expect, and I would certainly not be proud of this product and I would not put my name to anything that was not built well and would last life on a rough set. The new Hocus Focus, however is very well built and robust, and as a result, the price is a bit higher.
The product is finished now, and we are just ironing out the final details before it can be sold. We have a major meeting in the next few weeks, and we hope to have the unit selling soon.
Register on the mailing list at www.hocusproducts.com and pricing and final spec information will be sent out in the next few weeks.
I understand, haha I was just messing with you. I am glad to see you taking your time to make sure we get the best product possible, and I'm sure it will be worth every penny. I appreciate the info and time you've taken to post on the forum your experience making the hocus focus.
