Remote focus/iris controllers with the Panasonic 14-140 lens

just wonder have u tried it with other lens then 14-140? and also how it will performs with 4/3 to micro 4/3 adopter ?

It's not a lens issue, the 14-140 will stop down in 1/3 stop increments too (or were you talking about the noise of the aperture on the 14-35?), it's a camera issue. These lenses are capable of opening and closing in a smooth way without stopping at each 1/3 stop detent- put any of them on a still camera in movie mode and aperture priority and you will see that they can do just that. For some reason Panasonic seems to have implemented the iris control on the AF-100 in such a way that adjusting the aperture results in noticable jumps regardless of how you do it. This seems to me completely non-sensical in a camera that is dedicated solely to motion pictures. For what possible reason would I want the iris control to work this way?

Hi Jan, I know your busy but would there be any chance of a firmware upgrade that allows a smoother Iris control, is it possible.
 
The reaction time is not a function of the remote control. It is the camera/lens combination. All remotes are just a variable resistor, that the camera/lens reads and reacts to. There should not be any difference based upon brand of remote.
 
The Manfrotto 521PFI is not of very much of use for me, because when I zoom with the Panasonic 14-140 mm lens it is loosing focus. When I zoom in and focus something and then I zoom out, the focus goes automatically to infinity. That is very frustrating!
Not using the Manfrotto 521PFI the lens can hold focus, but it is not so easy to focus and zoom simultaneously.
Is this a normal behavior of this remote controller, or do I miss something?
 
The Lumix G Vario HD 14-140mm lens has a 'feature' that makes it temporarily lose focus during high speed zooming. Focus recovers after manual zooming comes to a stop. The lens works better as a slow variable prime. For a truly parfocal zoom expect to pay significantly more, most likely, for fully mechanical and manual lens.
 
After giving up on the BeBob FOXI because my model wouldn't achieve infinity with the 14-140 lens (even after 'tweaking') I got the Manfrotto 521PFI.
Better but still just too fiddly to easily use when doing focusworking around infinity to say 100feet because the adjustment was so small and precise.
Better when throwing focus on closer subjects though.

I'm back to a mechanical follow focus on the 14-140mm.
That lens is so frustrating because of the zoom re-focusing that's mentioned before.
I used it at an airshow and although everything was set to manual, if I zoomed out to 'find' the planes in the frame and then rapidly zoomed back in to follow them, I'd find later that the focus still altered for the next few seconds before finally settling back again. That ruins quite alot of the footage unfortunately.

I can't wait to get the Birger mount and get my Canon EF 70-200mm (plus 2x converter) onto the AF-101! The AF-101 is good with a fixed manual lens, like my OM-1 lenses but I think I'll go back to my Canon 5D2 when I need a longer zoom lens.
The 5D2 also does a very good 'auto exposure' by only smoothly changing the ISO, which the AF-101 fails to do.

just wonder if there are any news from Varizoom about the new remote?

I returned a 521PFI due to it's limitations, but Manfrotto is supposedly working on a remote specifically for the AF100.

Hope it will work with the Birger adapter while awaiting their focus control.
