ReLamp by Visionsmith - NAB 2016

Totally Usable
Another thing I found in my travels was the Visionsmith booth. They had a cool product they called the "ReLamp." Basically it replaces your halogen fresnels with LED bulbs. The bulbs are 98 CRI, and they work with the existing dimmers. They're flicker free, and fit 300w, 650w, 1K, and 2K fixtures. I hadn't heard of these guys, but they've got a cool thing going.

So is it the one type of unit for any fresnel light? For instance I have a mole 200, arri 300, B&M 650, and mole 1K fresnel, does the same LED go in all of them?

These drop ins look like great options but the low R values on the CRI ratings would have me worried about skin. Maybe it won't matter but I'd need to see samples or reviews before I roll the dice.

Actually the colour rendering of their lights is quite good. I'll have some units in a month or so for testing. Peter and company there are great guys. Stay tuned.

Great to hear! When you get them I would love to see them and hear your opinion. I think we live in the same neighbourhood if you wanted an extra set of hands for testing. I really like the sound of their 150w 1K fresnel replacement. Although right now I think my current lighting money is going towards a SoftPanel 2x3.

I am very interested in these. At a little lower price point I would convert a bunch of my Mole lights.

But converting 30 Tungsten lights at that price is undoable for me at this point.

Hopefully there will be others doing this to get some competition happening. Mole Richardson offers or offered LED retrofits..but the cost was insane.
I know rental houses would rather continue with the durability and established categories of traditional instruments.
I emailed the Relamp folks with questions when this post went up, but never heard back.

I know of entire stages that have swapped over to these and they're very happy with them. Local distributor can't keep them in stock.

Reminds me of Letterman keeping temps at Ed Sullivan at 57F, so he wouldn't melt under the lights. Replace the HMI's with the LED's and the temp can go back up to the high 60's.

Of course, for the day long shoots, these lights will pay for themselves rather quickly due to the savings on the electricity (including the A/C) bills.

Are they fixture/unit/brand specific? For instance is there a specific one for the Arri 650 vs the Mole 750 (or whatever)? Could I even use one in my B&M (Bardwell & McCallister) fresnel?

Ok...that explains things.
Josh, these are bulb oriented..basically whatever fixture uses the type of bulb.

For the facilities it's a huge savings in electricity used. 150w v. 1000w for a lamp is one thing, but it's nothing compared to the tonnage of air conditioning that has to get pumped through the space. That's where the real money is saved.

On the flip side, I know of two stages that recently had to add heating systems for use in the winter. They never bothered before.
