Register your 170 in 30 days OR NO WARRANTY

Hey guys. Just thought it was worth warning all new 170 purchasers that the highly advertised Panasonic HPX 170 5 Year warranty is only available to those who register their cameras in 30 days of purchase.

I was told that if you FAIL TO REGISTER IN 30 days you void the extended warranty and are only eligible for a one year warranty.

This is information that would be good to know. Frankly. I am not happy about this. I think my camera was registered properly, but if Panny is going to advertise a 5 year I would like to know about this 30 day limitation.

My camera is in for service and I was asked if my camera was under warranty and I said of course its an HPX-170 it has a 5 YEAR WARRANTY. They responded with well maybe it does?

This is not completely unreasonable, but it would be nice if this were common knowledge. I think many busy HPX-170 users might miss out on a key purchase bennefit of this camera if the DON"T REACT WITH IN 30 days.

Barry, Jan. Is this correct.

I have the name of the Panny rep who gave this information. This is coming from the repair center in Leawood, KS.

I have yet to find out if my warranty registration was received and accepted. I registered it 6 weeks after purchase, and as I filled out the online form I noticed the fine print that I should have done it within the first 30 days of purchase. I usually don't register major purchases within a month because I like to have time to see if there are going to be any issues with the product as 90% of problems show up that quickly and are still covered under the original warranty. 90 days seems more reasonable to me, but whatever the period, it should have been made more clear. There's a big sticker on my camera that says to register to receive the 5 year warranty, it could have also said "within 30 days".

Exactly.

in one of the packets inside your camera box there is a sheet advertising the warranty and says something like, "within 30 days of purchase".

You are correct. There is mention of this. It says register within one month. On a a very small 10 pnt text under an icon. IT DOES NOT EXPLICITLY SAY 30 DAYS OR ELSE.

Right... it EXPLICITLY says it, no?
I can not find were it mentions a penalty of loss of full warranty

My camera is under warranty. I was just surprised to here about this so I created the post. I just want the user community to know so they can register new cams ASAP.

I just spoke with Mr. Atwood from Panasonic Customer Service and Support and told me that I was still elegible for the 4 year extended warranty; I'm way past the 30 day period for registration as I purchased my hpx170 last November. :)

I would strongly recommend fellow hpx170 owners to register ASAP, just in case

I registered my camera 35 days after purchase and received an email the next day confirming the 5 year warranty.

Most warranty requirements have some period within which you must register.

Stands to reason.

It took us about 15 minutes to complete it, and given the length of the warranty, it was one of the first things we did.

I don't disagree with having a window of time. It just wasn't made very clear, is all. I think the OP's point wasn't to complain but to warn new/future HPX170 owners.

Hmmm... yes, it's useful for the poster to remind everyone. But I found the marking pretty clear... the three "steps" to getting the warranty (illustrated by the three big circles):
1) Purchase Product -> 2) Register within 1 month -> 3) Registration notice email sent

What if I buy it on ebay and it only has 45 hours of usage, do you think he'll let me register it for the extended warranty? Or should I try to say I’m the original owner? Well I’m just trying to decide which route to argue when I call them up; I don’t know their policy about 2nd transactions.

Thanks
