Regarding Custom Presets...

Some of the presets from the DVInfo library are raising some questions for me.

"AC PREF1" - Who is Alister Chapman and what about his preferred settings make them good for everyone else?

"5248FILM", "5296FILM" - What about these film stocks makes them discernable? I mean, what films or scenes have a look characteristic of these stocks?

"AVGFILM" - Define the "average" film stock.

"TERRA1" - Described as a "soft" image. Is this the kind of look one could use for a vintage look, or for something more surreal? (Such as the restroom scene in Casino Royale when Bond is poisoned. Could that be done with a preset, or would a lens filter be the way to go on that one? Kind of looks like AfterEffects to me.)

I apologize if any of this sounds trivial.

:dankk2:

Is there anywhere where the different presets are discussed in great detail for pros and cons? I've downloaded the DVinfo XL file of presets too, and like DammitJanet I wish there were more explanation of the different "looks". Anywhere this happens?

Thanks

I think I'm losing it - I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything, but I put the excel file on my memory card and I have no idea how to transfer it over to my camera. When I go to "Import", it doesn't appear.

What step am I missing?

Thanks,

Kegan

The canon will not see the excel file, that's just to list the settings in said files. You have to transfer a .cpf file to the memory card into a folder named PRESET. (create it if you don't have that folder) plus you can only have 20 presets on in that folder. Naming of PRESET01.CPF, PRESET02.CPF, PRESET03.CPF and so on till 20.

then the camera should see it just fine.
