7D Reduser Banned 7D word

That's gross. That's like an Apple forum banning the use of the word Microsoft. Yes of course everyone on the Apple forum thinks Apple products are at least as much better than MS products as the RED user people view their camera to the 7D....but banning words is just flat out stupid and immature. If they've got a problem with trolling then they need to deal with that, but then you've just got a bunch of betacam trolls instead of 7D trolls...not a huge improvement.

reduser is a red centric forum. some people refuse to honor that. I dont' know why. Either you don't mind it, or prefer it, and you oblige the general house rule while there, or you want to talk about cameras that are not RED, and you go talk about other cameras on a site more geared towards that discussion. Like, here on dvxuser, or over on dvinfo.net, or 5dcinema... or wherever it is that you like to hang out and talk about the gear you use, if that's what you like to talk about.

I wouldn't go on a forum dedicated to nvidia cards to discuss an ati card...

REDuser is busy and wild enough as it is. other camera threads were generally counter-productive at best the vast majority of the time over there. Didn't used to be a problem. I see all the causes of it becoming one over the last year, but most of that is just irrelevant... just the ebbs and flows of the market (or in the last couple of years, occasional tidal waves)

bottom line is reduser is red centric, and other camera discussion was not generally productive discussion for reduser. so, what was generally an unspoken, accepted gesture in the past, was recognized as such until it became a problem. now, it is spoken rule.

REDuser may be the official/sanctioned forum for the RED community and RED Digital Cinema, but it is owned and operated by landmine. who also owns and operates dvxuser. which has pretty thorough coverage of the cameras that our membership base uses, and/or the cameras that are in right now. REDuser branched off from dvxuser.. started as a sub-forum in "The New Guys" sub-forum. seems kinda weird that what (to a lot of people) is very specifically a website dedicated to all things red, (and a bit of some other stuff, of course) would now need discussion of other cameras to have some kind of equal billing over there... not to mention redundant given the sites lineage.

That's like an Apple forum banning the use of the word Microsoft.

it's two letters... it's not like they're banning company names... don't take it so seriously... of course, some people overreact and say "they're banning the names of cameras over there! what's next? going to ban the word film? xxxxxx" folks have to have fun every once in a while when asking nicely doesn't work... especially when people get to the point that they get all serious, and emotional, and personal with one another about freaking cameras... :)

Strikes me as being on the same lines as a child putting their fingers in their ears and saying "LA LA LA NOT LISTENING" actually...

It's cute that they're so insecure about a camera that is technically much better.

Why not take the high road and just acknowledge the fact that competitors exist and people want to discuss the pros and cons of competition. Morphing 7D into Betacam in the forum software is silly. But whatever- their board/their rules. But it only serves to turn people off.

RedUser has the right to set their own rules. They've tried repeatedly, and people simply won't abide by the house rules. Changing it to "betacam" is pretty funny, but it also serves as a reminder.

How many different ways do they have to say "DSLR discussion is not welcome here" before people will take them seriously and believe that's what they mean?

Here's a hint, folks: they're serious. They don't want reduser being cluttered up with 7D threads. Or 5D threads. Or AF100 threads. If you want to discuss those other cameras, do that here. If you want to discuss the Red One or Epic or Scarlet, you can do that there (or here, obviously, but there's a much more focused community over there).

They should just be consistent then and ban all non-RED cameras. It's their board yes- but be proactive and mature about it...
