Redundant recording?

Does anyone know if the AF100 has redundant recording? I doubt it does, but I thought I'd check. I think it would be hugely beneficial to be able to do this for multiple reasons. The most important would be instant back up since the media isn't quite as reliable as P2 is.

I believe it does. I read or saw somewhere that you can record to cards and out to something like a nanoflash, if that's what you mean.

Dear Friends,

Yes, the nanoFlash definitely can be used to provide redundant recording for the AF100/AF101/AF102.

But you definitely cannot record redundantly to the SD cards. Jan confirmed that for me yesterday at the GV expo.

Just to get my head straight, you cannot record to both internal cards at the same time but you can record to an one internal card and out to a secondary device such as nanoflash, right? So we achieve redundancy with the latter.

Yeah I knew this. Either the Nanoflash, Ninja, or KiPro mini is eventually something I will get. I've been following the Nanoflashes development since the early days of the Flash XDR. Too bad it's 8bit. I know the AF100 is only 8bit, but it might be nice to get a product that is a little more future proof. I'M not sure if I like the 10bit options yet tho.

I just hope that if they do ever go 10 bit with the nano, which I hope is soon, that there is an upgrade option for previous owners.

Yes. It would have been like having air bags in a car.

Jan explained that it would raise the cost significantly to have redundant SD recording - needing two processors/codecs to pull it off basically.

I actually asked this question on this board, and Jan answered that you can't record to both SD cards at the same time. A bit of a bummer, true. SD cards - all brands - fail occasionally. Imagine you have critical footage, and the sinking feeling in your stomach as you realize your card is corrupted and you lost all your work forever and ever and it's a catastrophe. You will be very sad indeed.
