Brandon is...

I was told that there would be serious networking opportunities and from what I can tell there were. The only problem was, it was each individuals responsibility to TAKE those opportunities. I went expecting to meet all of the great people I have talked to for so long in the written form and in hopes that Mark Harris would recognize meeting me in one of his posts. The former was the only one that occured. :(

I take partial blame for not meeting very many "heavy hitters" because I hung out with DVXusers the whole time. I didn't know who was an actor and who was John Smith from 1421 Vine Street, apartment 16.* I had a good time and met a lot of great people and to me that is all that matters. Would it have been nice to meet a famous director who was interested in my work? Hell yeah, but there were reasons that didn't happen.

And look at it this way: this was the first event, it is going to be hard to make sure EVERYONE is in the know about EVERYTHING. I hope people will learn from this event and make the most of the next one. Now, if you guys would be so kind as to stop giving me reason to make serious posts, I have a script to finish in an hour.

"Hi, I'm Brian, are you a famous actor/actress, producer, stunt man, firearms/props person, television host, agent, or director? No....oh....nice to meet you....

There was only so much time before we were ushered out. It seems the key was to know who they were and where they were.

Dude! I hope YOU'RE joking. I think the idea from the beginning has been the same. ANY event you attend for networking is yours to take advantage of. I met a lot of people that night before and after the event. People aren't going to walk around with a sign around their neck that says "Producer," "Stunt Coordinator," "Talk Show Host." You have to be personable and take an interest in other people. There were famous actors/actresses, producers, stunt men, firearms/props people, television hosts, agents, directors etc. etc.

Some of these successful people were dvxusers or invited by them. For instance, I finally got to meet Sam Balcomb who is a resident user here. I was stoked on that since I've really appreciated his work for a long time. But I also met Bobby Miranda who is a great actor and knew nothing about DVXuser.

The idea from the beginning was to get work from DVXusers up on a screen in Hollywood and to get reputable industry folks there to see it. That is exactly what happened.

This entire train of logic is null and void in light of there being a room where they were corralled and we weren't told of it. They clearly weren't milling about. YOu knew about it Tim, so dont talk down to me like it was my fcking stupidity and lack of people skills for not knowing the secret.

EXACTLY, there were 200+ people there, with very little time, was I supposed to rapidly go up and ask everyone's credentials to find the "industry execs"? I'm not so cool as to know what I would have done with such a connection, but lets not pretend it was a fish in a barrel situation.

Was it Bobby or Jeff? They're both way friggin cool and down to work on indie stuff.

It was Bobby. Super nice guy. But he was like: "Hey I'm bobby. I enjoyed your film." And he gave me his card and asked what I was up to next and all I could think was: "Dude, I have NO MONEY to hire someone like you." :)

But he was cool and I will def keep him on my mail list of projects I'm doing.

He introduced himself as stunts and firearms. Of course, that may come in very very handy in the future as I kind of like guns in my movies.

Wow. Are you really that shallow?

The respect for women around here is saddening.:(

conrad_jo my dear,

As the minority gender on this site and the stupider gender within the larger world, I am still very well-respected on this forum and indeed, within our local filmmaking community. Particularly when I go on about handjobs and my varying degrees of sluttiness (depending upon the week, of course, as my amount of slutty correlates directly with the amount of infectious virus in my body at the time). At these moments, as I run my mouth off about my phat-ass and sexual prowess, I am very well-respected and get a lot of attention from other (male) users/filmmakers. My filmmaking knowledge and skills, when I discuss them (rarely), can take a backseat. I don't mind. I know my place.

Most importantly, I am flattered by the attention seeing as how I am myself only AVERAGE looking and tend to be attracted to <s>fat</s> excuse me <s>chubby</s> excuse me larger men. While in the larger world I am often discredited for these three qualities (to recap, WOMAN+AVERAGE-LOOKING+LOVELARGEMENWHOMIWILLNOTCRUSHDURINGSEX), on this forum and among my fellow local, small-time filmmakers, I feel not only respected but in fact, adored.

Stop hating, you self-righteous ass! You and I grew up in South Dakota. Start having a more LA attitude about fat people and women and talk some shi* 'til they all hop on a treadmill, vomit up their sushi dinners and grow some breast implants! LA AIN'T MINNESOTA! You're going to have to learn to deal with that if you want to be bigtime. Don't be such a pussy. Tell people when they're being fat and ugly so they can IMPROVE THEMSELVES.

Okay, the pitbull's been called off and you're back to inside jokes about Los Angeles so I'm LEAVING.

I should have come out there and given you all mononucleosis. Then a. I'd know all the inside jokes b. you'd all have mono and c. I could have more realistic dreams about Brandon Rice than the ones I have currently, which are based only on a small avatar.

I haven't had a Brandon Rice dream since...uh... scifest? I'm due.
