C100: Redrock Micro ultraCage...Inaccessible buttons!

Today I purchased the Redrock Micro UltraCage Black Series for my C100. I followed the steps on the instructions: Installing the RedRock Doubletap on the bottom of the camera and the shoe mount adapter. After tightening everything down I noticed that I couldn't access the ND filter wheel, the Waveform monitor, or the Magnify buttons. I checked all of the packaging and even the B&H item description on my invoice and everything says C100. However, when I look at B&H's and Redrock's site, their pictures of the side bracket looks much different (larger hole for access to the ND wheel, and 2 less 1/2" threads).

Has anyone else had this problem? I just sent Redrock support an email and waiting to hear back from them... Pictures are below.

You have got the C300 cage. Also, your top two images clearly show that it is not same as the third C100 image which I guess has been picked from their site? I am sure they will rectify their mistake as I have found their customer service to be good.

Hi DannayZay,

It appears that you do in fact have the wrong cage, I apologize for that. Support will get with you promptly and get you taken care of and we'll get you up and shooting in no time!

Cheers,

Thanks Loren. A support rep helped me out and is sending over the correct operator's side bracket.

Looks like a nice cage. Can you also use the stock handle with it on? I wish Canon would have put the XLR connectors on the body instead of in the handle so you can keep internal sound.

Bumping this thread to ask a question about the C100 cage to see if anyone can help me out:

I see that the original Canon handle/xlr module can be attached on top of the UltraCage, does anyone know if it can safely carry the weight of a C100 rigged with a Matte Box, Follow Focus and a Sound Devices MixPre-D on the bottom? This is my biggest concern before buying the cage because i want to keep the XLR audio inputs but i'm not sure if the Canon handle can support all the weight.

DNN and Eiker,

You can use the stock C100 handle on the ultraCage with the ultraCage Cold Shoe Adapter.

However, I would be weary of how much weight you try and support with the C100's handle. I've always been a little concerned with the structure of the handle itself.

I usually tell people that if they need the XLR's on a rig with anything more than the camera and a follow focus, to place it somewhere else on the rig (with a cold shoe spud and microMount) and use an ultraCage Top Handle for actual support.
