RedLed another idea for RED

LED lighting seems the way especially for wedding videographers.

Soon somebody will work out the temperature issues but battery belt will soon be the way of the dodo.

My idea to improve this technology is LED technology saves power by flashing quickly instead of being constantly on.

If the light flashed in sync with the shutter speed of the camera using genlock as a reference and the shutter value this would maximize the output of the light for each frame and reduce the perceived brightness of the light for the ambience as well as save battery power.

Phase adjustment of this synchronization should produce interesting lighting effects as well.

I am curious to know what what the common frequency of the average LED light is?

And that's my idea for RedLed

You could also risk getting sued from epilectic people or people with heart illness as strobes are known to trigger these illnesses....

good idea but leds are efficient enough. you probably don't need to strobe for power savings. the good news is even if you strobe at 24fps, it probably won't be noticeable to crew/actors except maybe for a slight flicker. if you undercrank, you'll have a red disco.

unless your subject is pretty close, leds will fall off quickly and not do too much for lighting. i would like a gooseneck worklight attached to redcage that is synced to the red's shutter. that way i could operate the camera at night or on a dark set.

I thought fluorescents actually flicker at 120 Hz since a full power cycle is 60 Hz, but the current has two zero crossings during that time, and the light goes dim on each one. (this would be 100 Hz flicker in PAL-land)

aye! You're right. I stand corrected.
