RED Updates and Clarifications...

OK. Big day.

The aluminum prototype is just that. Production camera will be painted magnesium alloy with stainless steel inserts for mounting accessories.

Our cage program has just begun. We showed prototypes. Expect many more options by release date.

If you want to wait until there is footage to judge our camera... no problem. 4K footage will be released in the fall. Skeptics are part of any new program. We'll do our best to win you over.

The $1000 deposit is to help us prepare for production and to reward the "believers" with early delivery.

We worked really hard to get everything prepared for NAB and we all appreciate the extremely warm welcome we received there. We were overwhelmed with the amount of people that came to see the RED ONE camera and, quite frankly, we were not prepared for it. Our little 20x20' booth was simply inadequate for the volume of people that came by. We only had one person set up for reservations. In hindsight, we should have had more. We didn't realize there would be so much interest. We apologize for any inconvenience or delays to get everyone taken care of.

Thanks to all those who are supporting our quest.

Thanks so much for being so hands on w. your customers Jim. I hope you're looking forward to starting a revolution in this industry!

Best of luck! Can't wait to get my hands on it.

... said the hooker to the sailor .
Congratulations on a bonny launch Jim. I feel like you pulled up a stool for us in the workshop and gave us a peak at development. I like that open concept of development with your intended user base (me!).

Now you know the power of dreams and revolution  I'm sure the homestretch will have the rest of them at the betting window. Maybe it's because I'm an entrepreneur but the development is a big part of the fun. Of course, the footage will be the final determinant, but the paradigms (both camera and worfklow) look promising.

Seeing a camera come to fruition that has this much potential is something you and Jared (for providing this forum) are to be commended for. Seriously. Where else can I talk to someone about "Mysterium" chips and modular design ? BTW - will the camera fit inside an Arri 435 mockup? If I'm getting film footage, I might charge for it.

Also, I'm glad to learn about the painting the alloy (which I suspected)... Exciting times, indeed.

Cheers.

awesome stuff Jim
is there any way to register with deposit online - I'm in Australia
or is phone call the only way?

can't wait to get this puppy in the surf!

Hello Jim,

Let me just say thanks for having the vision and the courage to take up this undertaking. It's people like you who move this nation forward.

I could go on and on about how excited I am about this camera, but I might come off sounding like a shill for the Red Gang.

I think the cage option is one of the best things about the camera - huge kudos to you on your foresight for that concept. I figured the model would look more like the myriad of shoulder-mounted ENG cameras that exist since that's what most people seem to consider "legit" in the business these days, but I should've known better that you'd come up with something way more radical and evolutionary in nature. I'm just so stoked that not only can it be "beefed up" if we want, but it can also remain compact and lightweight for the situations where that would be extremely beneficial. I was dreading that it would be too heavy/bulky for my Steadicam Flyer, but I think it's going to make a fantastic pair! And not that my opinion matters, but I think the physical design is awesome... I really can't wait to see how the entire project continues to evolve.

I couldn't believe the huge red symbol hovering over the booth and the entire tent which looked completely custom-made... it's one of the most professional-looking show booths I've ever seen! I'm also glad to hear that your poor phone operator was flooded with calls... although I sympathize with the amount of calls he had to handle today, it's great that there is that much interest already at this stage of the process. There are a lot of people who are behind you and want to help you succeed - I hope NAB reaffirms that for you and gives you all the more drive to make this the best camera ever.

Thank you for making this happen!

Absolutely phenomenal Jim! You came in $1,400 below my guesstimate!

On the Red website is a non-interactive reservation form. Should I phone a reservation in or are there plans to have an interactive form? I'm ready with my credit card!

I think you have to phone it in---(I did--there is no fax number). They will get back to you----I got a call late yesterday from a very nice guy.
