Red Scarlet Announcement Info

Well... if they launch a fixed 2/3" camera and their biggest, most amazing news ever is a price increase... they might be in trouble. Surely, it has to be a complete change in spec?
They could increase the resolution of the 2/3" sensor, but it has already been discussed that lenses would not be able to resolve the 4K anyway.

btw - I really wanted a fixed 2/3".... it is a perfect format for my business. I don't want to be spending $$$$s on glass.

Who ever said that scarlet will be their only announcement come Nov. 3rd? If I'd take guess, it's going to be something about SCARLET, RED RAY and this new projector of theirs -- but I might be completely off the ball.

I don't think I have ever seen the forums so excited and anxious before!

Only a few days left! It will be interesting to read the final specs on both of the new cameras from RED and Canon.

I think RED will have a winner with the Scarlet but the price increase does hurt.

And the countdown continues ...

True... could be several cameras too.

The problem is where does RED have the time to design all these extra cameras? I'm not ruling it out, because you never know.

But RED's track record is they take a very, very long time to finish anything. Red Ray Pro was suppose to be out Jan-Feb 2010. It's almost 2 years now. IMO, it's very unlikely they managed to design other cameras.

They also have a history of raising prices (while increasing features). But then you never get the camera you wanted that you first heard about. Higher specs are nice and all, but it does you no good if you can't afford it.

I agree that delays suck but what RED has done in just a few years is pretty amazing. You have to give them "some" credit for what they have accomplished. The EpicX is a dream camera and I am certain the Scarlet will be no slouch either.

RED is not perfect but give credit where credit is due.

I can't wait for Thursday. :)

EPIC-X costs 46000$ when it has same features as basic Alexa and most people think Alexa has better image. If you live in Europe, that means 46000$ + your country's VAT which is around 21% + shipping and handling costs from RED USA to RED Europe. So EPIC-X for Europeans will cost around 57000$ = 40000€. That's only 10000€ less than Alexa.

EPIC-X brain costs 36500$, but you can't even turn the camera on with that only.

RED definitely does makes innovative products. As a company they have drive, ambition, dedication and engineering talent. I think they've been given a lot of credit.

But they do things differently. They're sort of a loose cannon. They suffer from feature-creep which constantly causes delays. In some ways this shows a lack of discipline. However, there is no real right way or wrong way to operate a company as long as you're making profits that sustain the business. So if they want to operate this way, no worries.

I just think it's unfortunate that they engage in a lot smack talk, putting down other companies for operating a different way, which is releasing products with incremental improvements. These other companies are just sticking to set of design specs and meeting deadlines to release a product. RED extends their deadlines to make a better product, but in the mean time you're never able to buy it.

+1

I may not be able to buy it but I can at least rent it very soon! :)

You make good points and I wish you a nice Sunday!

What people seem to don't get is that technology like this takes a long time to develop properly. Especially if the goal is a professional level product. The only problem is that Red started promoting the arrival of the magical Scarlet for a few bucks, way, way, way too early, when it was still in the brain of Jim Jannard and company. If they would have just shut up until it was ready and surprise everybody with it they would have looked much better. But, who cares what critics say when you have a few billion dollars stashed in the bank.
