Red Rock Image upside down?

Sorry guys, I wasn't trying to knock the Nikons. I just see about 99.9% of the M2 population using them, and so I say to myself, what's the trend based on? Everyone saying that they should use them? Or, is the trend based on definable scientific verification that Nikons are better than Canons, for e.g.? From what I have found out, it seems like Nikons are pretty widespread and easy to get on Ebay without breaking the bank, so perhaps that's the reason... Anyway, it was just an observation, not an unwarranted display of "hubris." I'm still learning & researching all this!

In reading my responses, I came across as rather bitchy so sorry 'bout that. I had my PowerBook hard drive meltdown and lost my wallet in the same week so I was in a pissy mood.

I have owned many Nikon cameras, lenses as well as many Canon cameras and lenses over the years. Nikon glass is generally superior to Canon's glass unless you spring for the Canon "L" series glass, which is very good and very expensive.

Nikon offers more mid-range glass that is really excellent for the price like the 105mm 2.8 Micro. Canon's non L glass doesn't impress me very much.

The zoom factor is something that we've incredibly hard on. In fact, it's safe to say that a Brevis + fast lens can exceed the SLR frame of view. This means a 24mm, may actually end up looking like a 22mm if you want it to.

After some extensive testing I can confirm that the Brevis adapter with CF1/CF1L still loses less than 1 stop of light, with the flip unit, and a 50mm f1.4 lens attached. If you were happy with the Brevis light efficiency non-flipped, you won't even notice the flip module light loss. It's 1/4 stop or so.

I can also confirm that the Brevis light loss as a 50mm f 1.4 lens is stopped down from f1.4 to f4, is nowhere close to 3 stops at the camera. It's very cool (and I'll admit a bit baffling) to observe on the scope :-) What this means is that you can dial in 1 or 2 stops to bring up edge sharpness with minimal light loss penalty at the camera. It's something that had been discussed previously, but we had never tested extensively.

PhoenixF2B said "I just checked Letus's site, it's 1 1/2 stop loss IN ADDTION to the loss through the SLR lens."

the new 'letus35 extreme' light loss is a total of 1/2 stop.

the older cheaper letus35 fe or flip enhanced has a light loss of about 1 1/2 stops

The hvx200 with no gain/no adapter is rated at about 320 asa . With the letus extreme it drops down to about 250 asa (that's not so bad)

I have used a couple 35 adapters over the past years; the P+S Technik mini35, Redrock Micro35, and the Movietube ST.
All three of these adapters render your HVX at about 100asa. This is fine for daytime shooting but a bit of a problem when shooting at night. You will need tons of light and most likely gain to get an acceptable image after the sun has gone down.
The Movietube is hands down the sharpest adapter on the market right now but is also the most expensive. There is no noticable grain from what they call the cinescreen (doesn't spin or vibrate) and when fully dressed it looks bad ass kinda like an ARRI 435 as well. The Mini35 is very sharp as well but there is a little bit of grain from its ground glass.
The two redrocks I used had some serious edge to edge sharpness problems and tons of noise/grain in comparrison. But the one thing that really pissed me off is that redrock sends out there adapters without setting a proper flange depth on there ground glass. It took me about 12 hours of ajusting and fine tooning the ground glass so the focus marks on my lens would match up with the actual mesurements. Once set up the redrock produced an accepptable image. I've only used these adapters with Ziess super speed PL mount lenses.

not sure where im going with this so I'll end it.
Of the cheap adapters the the letus35 extreme looks like its way ahead of the game.
I ordered one a couple days ago and I'll let you know what I think when I run it through some tests. Letus doesn't offer a PL mount as of now but the one from redrock should work with it.

In the meantime check out my films at www.homepage.mac.com/benniles1/iMovieTheater13.html
